Supernatural: Right and Wrong So Far

So here's where we are.

Sam and Dean are living separate lives, no contact. Sam has renounced his life as a hunter, while Dean is hunting like a madman. Cas is looking for God. They're all hunted themselves, for different reasons - Cas for rebelling against the angels, Dean because he won't become Michael's vessel, and Sam because he won't become Lucifer's vessel (I can't believe I left that out of my recap!).

How about those predictions?

Okay, so I scored some points here - Raphael is an archangel. Eh, that was an easy one. Raphael is not a very common name, but it is the name of an archangel.

The prediction that Sam is Lucifer's vessel - that I made last season! - that's better. Got the mytharc for the season wrong, but got the vessel thing almost exactly, down to the reason, though we may come to find out there's more to the story.

More to the story?

I think maybe we are going to find out that this is tied in to more than just the Apocalypse.,

The Bible is full of brotherly conflict - Cain and Abel. Esau and Jacob. Isaac and Ishmael. Abraham and Lot. Moses and Aaron. Even Joseph and his many brothers. Maybe this is part of a pattern that has been going on throughout eternity. Only the final battle between the brothers can settle it - and that's why the prophecies can only be fulfilled by brothers.

Or maybe not.

I also got a lot more wrong than the mytharc. Raphael is not a healer - he's dangerous. So far, no mention of Lucifer's Grace - though just as Dean is Michael's sword, his weapon, Sam is likely prophesied to be a weapon for Lucifer.

Oh, and about Sam. He's not quite normal yet. He still has the residual effects of being addicted to demon blood. I think it may be a long battle for him - the parallels they drew to AA in the last episode was no coincidence in my opinion.

Four Horsemen against....who?

Another thing I got wrong is the Four Horsemen vs. Four Archangels.

I didn't figure that the Four Horsemen already have their four opponents - Bobby, Cas, Sam and Dean.

I tried to parallel them to the Horsemen... Dean parallels War, Sam parallels Famine/Pestilence (remember Croatoan? or alternatively, his hunger for blood makes him a good bet for Famine - destruction by hunger). Cas would be ... Death? On a pale horse? Revived from the dead? Maybe. That would leave Bobby as Conquest - the leader. Which makes sense, actually.

So what does this mean in the big scheme of things for the season? I'm not sure. It looks like War has been taken out, for now at least. Then again, Bobby has also, to some extent, though he still can lead, he's mainly out of action.

Will be interesting to see if the Winchesters and Cas get taken out of the picture more or less (obviously, Sam and Dean can't be completely out of the picture, or the show would be boring. But they can be rendered ineffective for a time. And I sure don't think War is completely gone just because the Winchesters got his ring. I think we'll see him again late in the season.) as they meet (and hopefully defeat) the other Horsemen.

Oh, and also, I'm interested to see if it they all drive Mustangs (got that one right, also), or if some of them drive more modern sports cars - a Ferrari, maybe (the emblem is a horse) or possibly pony cars (which is technically what a Mustang is usually classified as)? I think if I were Kripke, I would try to squeeze in as many different vintage sports cars as I could - and having the Horsemen drive pony cars would be a good way to do it. Of course, I'm biased. My dad owned a Barracuda and a Javelin when I was little, and I loved both those cars.

Back to the music

Finally, want to say I am glad to hear classic rock in the first couple of episodes. I expect as the budgets run thinner throughout the year, we'll hear less of it, but for now, I'm enjoying the heck out of it!

Check back Friday for a recap of tomorrow's episode. (hopefully complete)
