Supernatural: Back in Action This Week

Finally!

After a bunch of fits and starts, we're back live this week, and for the next several weeks.

It's been a bit of a break in the routine. The last three episodes have all (seemingly, at least) been one-off episodes, that don't clearly advance the show's mythology. And that continues this week, as we get another episode that seems designed to lighten up the show's mood a bit, since the last couple of episodes have been extremely grim, and the season looks to finish out on the same grim notes.

With the break in new episodes, I've been taking a bit of a break from the blog. I haven't found any interesting news, and with all the one-off episodes, it's been difficult to formulate any kind of feel for where the series will go from here. The good news is that the FAQ on IMDB has been updated to state that there will be a third season (though these things can change quickly, and this is in no way official word - the IMDB message board states that most networks officially give word about May 17. Yikes!).

With at least the commitment to begin filming the third season (assuming they will get it), it gives the writers some room to work. In the first season, the ending was ambiguous enough that if the series ended, there was some closure. Another blog, I forget which, mentioned that they felt the Season 2 Premiere felt more like it should have been the Season 1 Finale. I think that's a fair statement, though I felt it worked well as a premiere also. But I can certainly imagine the writers deciding to write one more filler episode to give the series something of an end in case it wasn't renewed.

This season, though, Eric Kripke has been adamant that we will get most of our questions answered, and that part of the story arc will be completed, but that it will lead to a new story arc.

I'll keep checking for some hints by Mr. Kripke, but in the meantime, I'm really looking forward to the next episode. The writers have proven to be quite snarky at Hollywood-types in some of the episodes, and this episode looks like it could give them lots of ammo to snipe at the Hollywood establishment types.

Should be fun.

Just an FYI, only the CW will be releasing their scheduling info on the 17th (as that's their day in Upfronts week), the rest of the networks are actually before that. And, since IMDb info is updated by users, not staff, it's not only unreliable, it's often completely unfounded - not that you should worry; things are looking very good for a third season :)

Thanks for the correction and the info! Really hoping this one will be back.
