Supernatural is back wtih new episode - Croatoan - tonight, after a two week break. Lots of zombie-style goodness, judging from the previews, plus, we learn what John told Dean about Sam! But what's up with the title? Here's a hint.
The New World
In 1587, the English attempted to establish a colony on Roanoke Island, off the coast of what is now North Carolina, near the Outer Banks. They were not met on good terms by the Native Americans there, due to previous incidents with other colonists. The colonists asked their governor to return to England to bring aid, since they were afraid of being attacked.
Lost!
When the governor returned, there was no trace of the entire colony, some 117 people. There was no evidence of an attack or disease. In more colorful tellings of the story, the return party even found tables set for dinner, but no signs of life, not even animals. The only clue to the fate of the colonists was a single word carved into the bark of a tree: "Croatoan".
Today, we know this mystery as the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
Sounds like our favorite writers are mining another great American legend for the show.
Also listen for "Virginia Dare" somewhere in the episode. I suspect we may hear this name. Virginia Dare was a member of the Roanoke colony, though she was an infant at the time. She was the first English child born in America.
(Note: IMDB shows this episode as "Croatian"? They're wrong, the official site spells it correct.)
And don't forget, tonight we learn John's secret about Sam!
