Supernatural Fodder

Supernatural: Hell House

Impressions

Strong effort for a filler episode.

Critique

This one doesn't advance the demon-hunting storyline. But it does contain some fun humor, and an unusual phenomenon called the tulpa.

It presents an interesting problem, because the tulpa is created when people believe in it. The brothers try to create a belief in how the creature can be killed, but fail.

So they "improvise".

I predict that we'll see Ed and Harry again. I think they could become somewhat like the "Lone Gunmen" in The X-Files, a recurring source of humor when the series needs a filler episode.

Trivia

Written by Trey Calloway, who has a few credits, including I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer (I hope he didn't write the title). IMDB also credits him with writing Shadow, one of the better 2005 episodes.

Directed by Chris Long, another director with Lois and Clark and Smallville credits. Also directed a Point Pleasant episode.

Wikipedia has more info on the tulpa, connecting it with the urban legend film "Candyman".

The title is an allusion to The Legend of Hell House, a movie and book.
