Studio 60 Fodder

"Studio 60" to Go on Hiatus

Starting March 5th, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is going to be replaced by the "mini-drama" The Black Donnellys. Despite the fact that The Black Donnellys only has a 13-episode season, no date has been set for Studio 60 to return.

I tried to find the original press release on this, but I don't rate highly enough for NBC to actually send one to me personally. A reprint of the press release can be found at The Futon Critic. zap2it, a site I consider a little more authoritative, also has news on the shift. Finally, The Sunset Strip blog has this.

I also apologize for not getting the news out earlier. I have excuses, but you don't need to hear them. Just know that I'll attempt to do better in the future.

First off, and totally unrelated to this story, I am kind of excited about Andy Richter returning to TV. I really loved Andy Richter Controls the Universe and missed it when it left.

Now, back on topic, and taking this from news to opinion: I hate hiatuses. Hiati? You should have seen me the one week where they ran Friday Night Lights in Studio 60's slot. Freaked me way the heck out. It's just that I've seen excellent shows that were on the cusp (not unlike our own Studio 60) be killed by being absent from the schedule. I'm afraid people may get used to it being off the schedule and not remember to retrn when the show returns. I just don't want to see Studio 60 get doomed to cancellation through random schedule shifting the way, say, Freaks and Geeks was (No, I will never forgive NBC for that).

Oh, well....If the viewers forget, hopefully at least their TiVos will remember.
