Studio 60 Fodder

Sorkin's "Studio 60" added to the TV Fodder roster

It's been a summer of anticipation for fans of quality television. The buzz for Aaron Sorkin's new series "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" remained loud and constant all summer long. If you've somehow missed every single story in all the coverage that this press-darling has received, here's your thirty-second catch-up: Studio 60 is an ensemble drama set backstage at a Saturday Night Live-esque television show, revealing the drama behind all good comedy.

The good news for TV fans is, in a word, thrilling: Not only has "Studio 60" already received lavish critical praise, earned a plum timeslot (Mondays at 9), and scored an all-star cast... It's also the latest show to be added to TV Fodder's roster of programs given more in-depth analysis and review.

As star Matthew Perry might have said when in character the last time he starred in episodic television: Could this be more exciting?

Not really. The aforementioned all-star cast includes Sorkin alumni (Bradley Whitford, Timothy Busfield) and other greats (DL Hughley, Amanda Peet, Steven Weber, Perry). Frequent Sorkin collaborators Thomas Shlamme and W.G. "Snuffy" Walden) are all involved as well. Fans of Sorkin's previous work -- The West Wing, Sports Night, The American President, A Few Good Men -- know we have every reason to be counting the days until the show's premiere. (Note, though, that NBC still hasn't formally announced just when that debut might be.)

When Studio 60 does hit the airwaves, you can be certain that TV Fodder will be here to help you digest every second of it. By the way, I'm a new addition to the roster here. My name's Lex Friedman, and I'm delighted to be here covering the show. This show, in fact, will mark the first time I set both my TiVos to record the same thing -- you know, in case one has a sudden glitch. For me, at least, this fall's best-reviewed new show is already a "can't-miss" event.

Guess that makes it hard to count down the days. We'll just have to eagerly anticipate the premiere instead.

Right you are, ISF. I'm simply counting the days in *ascending* order, so I don't need to know the final premiere date ;)

In all seriousness, once we learn the premiere date, we'll be sure to share it immediately!

NBC announced a while ago that Studio 60 premieres on September 18 (September 17 in Canada!)

Loved your writing style! What'll you do if they slot Prison Break or Vanished opposite Studio 60? Get a third TiVo?

Can't wait to read this blog! I hope the show does not disappoint...

I just watched the pilot (gotta love Netflix) and I am now officially psyched for this show. The pilot absolutely crackles.

This is gonna be a fun season.
