Things are still hush-hush about the much-anticipated "Office" spin-off, but here's a little nugget -- Aziz Ansari is the first announced star.
There's no word on his character, or what other actors may be involved. However, Variety says that he will begin to appear on episodes of "The Office" next season, as part of what could be a "planted spinoff." In other words, don't expect any of the current cast to give up that plum gig.
"We're focusing on making the best show we can make as a companion to 'The Office,'" said Michael Schur, executive producer. "We're trying to come up with the best concept and hire the funniest writers. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be making the final move to one specific idea."
Ansari won't be a total stranger. He just finished "The Rocker," with "Office" regular Rainn Wilson. He is also working on the Paul Rudd/Jason Segal comedy, "I Love You Man." Ansari can be seen regularly on MTV's "Human Giant."
Despite no other details, the show is expected to premiere this winter on NBC. -- Rachel Cericola
