The Office: A Benihana Christmas

”office-christmas.jpg"Better late than never...

Poor Michael. It's the holidays and he gets dumped. Of course he does. His wife (yeah, that's Steve Carell's real-life wife Nancy Walls that plays Carol) can't stay on the show forever!

That set the tone for this one-hour holiday extravaganza -- or at least it set the tone for drinking, which was a big part of this special holiday episode.

So Carol dumped Michael, which is sort of surprising, but only because I thought she dumped him after his proposal in the "Diwali" episode. Her actions were justifiable, after she received a Christmas card where Michael had Photoshopped his head onto her ex-husband's body in her family picture. On the scale of creepy, Michael might have just surpassed Creed.

Speaking of which: When Creed picked himself a little something out of the Toys for Tots barrel, I almost shot a beverage out of my nose.

Back to the break-up... Michael couldn't seem to quell his heartache with a 10-second song sample on iTunes (was that James Blunt?), so he headed out to Benihana with Jim, Andy and Dwight. Ryan turned to his Treo full of excuses to get out of the lunch. You'd think he'd want a break from Kelly for five minutes. After all, it should be "bros before hos." Dwight gets separated from the rest of the group at the restaurant, but his services are not needed. All it took was a quick burst of steam from one onion to perk Michael up.

Meanwhile, back at the office, it seemed there is a clash amongst the party planning committee. You're a mean one, Ms. Grinch -- yeah, I'm looking at you Angela. We are all used to Angela being a dictator when it comes to party planning. One person that isn't used to it: Karen.

After being ejected from the committee, Pam takes pity on Karen and the two form a better party. Of course, it’s better. Alcohol and karaoke makes everything better.

When Michael returns to the office, he and Andy have two waitresses with them. In a weird move: They were not the same ones that the two of them were eyeing at the restaurant. Was this a nod to how Michael seemed to think that all "waitresses" look alike? Maybe he should have marked the first two with a Sharpie.

Props to Pam for pulling off the CIA gag on Dwight. I was so happy to see Jim join in the fun by the end. If he was going to stop picking on Dwight... well... you may as well tell me that there's no Santa Claus.

Despite thinking he is a "bold" guy, Jim seemed to come to Michael's escue again. Good talk, Jim. He also gave us some incite into his thinking. It seems that Karen is not a keeper after all. It's only a matter of time before he starts digging Pam again. Will she get back with a newly svelte Roy or is Tobe a contender? After all, she did dig up that bathrobe.

It seems obvious that Michael will be frolicking with Jan at Sandals this Christmas. Not sure what her thinking is. Maybe she finds all-inclusive irresistible. -- Rachel Cericola

Jan makes a lot more sense than who I thought it was. I was thinking that he had called his mother. haha.

I think that Toby could be a contender.
