Maura Tierney Will Face Cancer on 'Rescue Me'

When the final season of Rescue Me premieres next month, Maura Tierney will return to face an all-too-familiar scenario.

According to TV Guide, her recurring character, Kelly McPhee, will battle cancer. In 2009, Tierney came forward to announce that she was treating her own breast cancer. As a result, she dropped out of the NBC drama, Parenthood. Lauren Graham then took over her role.

Are You Still Watching 'Pitchmen'?

It was really heartbreaking when pitchman Billy Mays died last year. As if the guy wasn't already a household name (or at least face and voice), he had just kicked off a new show on Discovery Channel, the appropriately titled Pitchmen.

With Mays gone, it would seem natural that the show would shut down production. However, the show (and pitches) apparently must go on. Original pitchman Anthony Sullivan is still selling. Of course, the show is titled Pitchmen. This season, to fill the Mays void, Discovery brought in, well... Billy Mays. It's actually Billy Mays III.

'Futurama' Welcomes Matt Groening and David X. Cohen

If I had my own cartoon empire, I would animate myself to look a lot cooler. Matt Groening and David X. Cohen didn't really do that for their guest appearance on tonight's Futurama -- unless you think being just a talking head is really cool.

Stars Come Out for Simpsons 22nd Season

The Simpsons will soon embark on the show's 22nd season. While no one ever seems to age in Springfield (except maybe Grandpa Simpson), you have to wonder how many episodes the creators have left in them. Maybe Hollywood is wondering that as well, because the upcoming season will be star-studded, to say the least.

Fox just announced a few of the episodes we can expect, and have attached many famous names.

An episode titled "Elementary School Musical" will feature Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords as artsy camp counselors to Lisa, as well as Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley from Fox's own Glee.

The 21st annual "Treehouse of Horror XXI" will include the voices of House star Hugh Laurie, as well as Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe.

Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, baseball legend Mike Scioscia, and sports writer Bill James will all appear in "MoneyBart." Mad Men star Jon Hamm will play an an FBI supervisor in "Donnie Fatso." Martha Stewart will pop up in "The Fight Before Christmas," which also includes live-action puppets.

Other voices you can expect to hear include Kristen Wiig, Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz, Alyson Hannigan, Danica Patrick, Cheech & Chong, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The 22nd season of The Simpsons premieres Sunday, September 26 on Fox.

'Law & Order' Lures Terrence Howard

He may not have made it into Iron Man 2, but Terrance Howard will become a major part of another growing franchise. NBC says that the 41-year-old actor has signed on to star in Law & Order: Los Angeles.

Howard will play a deputy district attorney and share screentime with Alfred Molina, who was also recently added to the cast.

"I feel like manager of the 1961 Yankees. I have my Mantle and Maris," said creator Dick Wolf.

Howard was nominated for an Oscar for his work in Hustle & Flow. Recently, he lent his voice to the animated Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. According to IMDB, Howard has five additional movies coming out sometime within the next year.

Aside from Howard and Molina, the cast is rounding out nicely. Skeet Ulrich was the first to sign on. Corey Stoll (Salt) will join the cast as well.

Law & Order: Los Angeles premieres September 29, 2010. After that, the drama will air every Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on NBC.

Big Changes for 'American Idol'

Last night, Fox announced that Ellen DeGeneres had dropped out of American Idol. However, they haven't said a word about today's reports that fellow judge, Kara DioGuardi, is getting the axe. With Randy Jackson as the only remaining judge, what's next for America's most watched TV show?

Don't worry, dawg. The show is coming back. It's still a massive cash cow. So instead of scrapping the whole thing, it sounds like Fox is planning to fill those empty slots with some very famous faces.

According to TMZ, the show will go back to its three-judge format, with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler rounding out the panel.

Are we excited? Have other butts you'd rather see in those seats? Fox has yet to confirm the additions, so sound off with your selections below.

American Idol is scheduled to return in January 2011 on Fox.

DirecTV Does 'Damages' Control

Check out DirecTV! OK, maybe you can't because you have cable. However, they are certainly making a good argument for switching over. After all, they are starting to stack up some original programming -- and it's not lame!

The satellite provider just announced plans to acquire the acclaimed drama Damages. After three seasons on FX, the cable net had Glenn Close's show on its chopping block. Instead, DirecTV came in to swoop it up. Thanks fellas!

Of course, Close will return, as well as Rose Byrne. Other major characters are also expected to come back, although no official announcements have been made.

DirecTV also gets the rights to all of the show's previous seasons. It's unclear when those will air, but we're guessing you'll have a chance to catch up before DirecTV starts producing new episodes of Damages early next year.

Jeremy London & Rachel Uchitel Head to VH1 Rehab

Dr. Drew never seems to run out of celebrities willing to go to his brand of rehab.

The latest two "celebs" to sign up for VH1's fourth installment of Celebrity Rehab are Rachel Uchitel and Jeremy London. Apparently, the show goes for A listers -- of tabloids, anyway.

Uchitel is best known as Tiger Woods Mistress #1. Although she supposedly received a huge payout from the golfer, that doesn't include much screen time. So, according to PopEater.com, the 35-year-old party planner will be treated for some type of pill addiction.

London is probably best known for his acting. (No, really!) His roles include Kevin Smith's Mallrats and the TV show Party of Five. However, lately he's been linked to an alleged kidnapping (his own) as well as problems with drug use.

Other famous faces that have signed on for a very public recovery include model Janice Dickinson, former teen idol Leif Garrett, Jason Wahler from The Hills, reality star Frankie Lons, and richie rich Jason "Gummi Bear" Davis.

Joan Cusack Stopping By 'Law & Order: SVU'

Fresh off the success of this summer's Toy Story 3, actress Joan Cusack has signed up for a guest stint on Law & Order: SVU.

According to TVGuide.com, Cusack will appear as the mother of a missing girl. It sounds sort of like a one-shot deal. Isn't this woman deserving of her own TNT or FX show by now?

There's no word on when Cusack's episode will appear. Aside from the Toy Story franchise, the actress is lending her voice to the upcoming Hoodwinked Too! Hood VS. Evil. She is also currently working on the flick Mars Needs Moms!

Brian Austin Green Doing 'Desperate Housewives'

Who knew David Silver would have such a long TV career?

Brian Austin Green, who is probably best known for his role on 90210, will soon show up on ABC's Desperate Housewives.

According to Reuters, Green will play a contractor and potential love interest for one of the Housewives. Expect him to stick around for at least a few episodes.

Green recently made headlines for his marriage to actress Megan Fox. Before that, he had a short stint on Smallville and was a regular on the now-cancelled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Don't expect Green to be the only one injecting new life into the ABC series. It was reported earlier that Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) would also show up this fall.

Desperate Housewives will kick off its seventh season on September 26 on ABC.

Are You Watching Deadliest Catch?

I have been a fan of Deadliest Catch for quite a while now. Watching the show gives me a window into something I can't even fathom. It also gives me a serious hankering for shellfish.

That said, I am finding it harder to watch the show's sixth season. Apparently, I am alone.

As many of you know, this season chronicles the end of the road for late Captain Phil Harris. The good captain died in February 2010, after complications from a stroke. Discovery has been press-releasing the crap out of this season, saying that the show is consistently number one in its timeslot.

Most recently, the network says that the July 6th episode, "Cain and Abel," scored the show's highest ratings to date, with an average of 5.26 million viewers.

That's a lot of people watching a lot of misery. I've watched a few minutes and part of me hopes Captain Phil will be ok in the end, because you know, it is TV. Sadly, we all know that won't be the case.

Are you watching this season? If so, you can catch new episodes of Deadliest Catch every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. (EST) on Discovery Channel.

'Law & Order' Snags Skeet Ulrich

About a week ago, we were wondering who was going to fill the crime-fighting shoes for Law & Order: Los Angeles. Well, now we have part of that answer.

NBC has locked down Skeet Ulrich for one of the leads. The Scream actor just spent a little time on CSI: NY, and must have impressed a few people. He also has a bit of a TV history, starring on the cancelled cult favorite, Jericho.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Ulrich will play the role of ex-Marine Rex Winters. Five additional roles still need to be cast.
