How I Met Your Mother: Slapsgiving

Ah, Slapsgiving. The day when slaps are given. If you kept track, the slap countdown web site counted down to tonight. Oh, fun is to be had.

Ted says that he and Robin used to have a running joke that involved making puns. This leads to Ted saying how things change after you break up and most of all, you can no longer be alone together.

Lily brings a turkey to the table. It will be the best thanksgiving ever - except Marshall calls it Slapsgiving at first. Robin says she's bringing Bob and it's not even the real Thanksgiving. Barney makes fun of Robin and Marshall says Slapsgiving again. Marshall then explains how he will give slaps and they argue about that.

Robin introduces her new man Bob who is 41. Ted sees him as an old man but he's not really. Nobody else can see it. The following day, pies are to be made at Robin's since Marshall is a sleep eater. Many are to be there but only Ted and Robin show up. Ted calls Barney but he is hitting on a woman.

The following day, Ted and Marshall are preparing for the meal along with Barney. Barney tells Marshall that it's no big deal that he's getting slapped since he knows when it is coming. Robin comes and goes to the kitchen to tell Lily the same thing that Ted tells Marshall and Barney - something happened of the weird variety.

Ted recalls how they were in the kitchen and had nothing to say to each other. He says he wanted to leave but Robin was exhausted. Robin says she was trying to get Ted to leave but didn't get the hint. Alas, Ted had to say something awkward - he brings up how they had sex the previous year seven times. They start working on a pecan pie which is for Bob.

This leads to Robin wondering if Ted is jealous of Bob and he makes fun of Bob for how old he is. They get to arguing and Ted says he will leave and they then apologize and this apology gets hot and heavy really fast.

Nobody can believe it happened. Lily reviews the facts : Bob is coming to the meal where Ted also where be. Ted and Robin disagree whether they should talk about it. They end up arguing.

Marshall throws the slap bet web site up and this leads to much arguing that gets Lily the slap bet commissioner to say that no slaps will be issued. Bob comes with gelatin shots.

Ted says that they aren't really friends - they only pretend to be friends because it would be inconvenient not to. Robin says they should stop pretending and Ted agrees - so they say they will eat dinner and that will be it.

Apparently, this was their last Thanksgiving together. Marshall says he wants to say something. He is grateful to Lily for starting such a wonderful tradition. Bob says that Thanksgiving is rad especially compared to how it is at home and Ted and Robin make their pun again. Everyone thought it was over but Ted says it must not be.

Barney shows everyone how little time there is on the slap countdown and when the timer is about to run out Lily says Marshall can slap Barney and so he does. He then plays a lovely song on the piano and wishes everyone a happy Slapsgiving.

Everyone cleans up and makes the silly pun.

Have yourself a happy Slapsgiving.

Apparently, from what I read over at Alan Sepinwall's blog, the previous slaps were shown in the wrong order. However, the producers hope to be able to fix it before reruns, or at best, before the eventual DVD release.

This is a good thing, since this show relies so heavily on its inner history and continuity.

And there's a video out there of Marshall playing the slap song on a white piano. (I'm at work or I'd hunt down the link for ya!)
