Heroes: 3.11 - Eclipse, Part 2

eclipse-2.jpgI hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and got good deals on Black Friday! And I hope no one got hurt trying to get those deals!

The Haitian still doesn't have a name but Peter follows him through the forest. This is damn long eclipse! Nathan is tied up in a prison that is run by The Haitian's brother, Baron Samedi. Is Samedi his first or last name? Does that mean the Haitan's name is Same-dum? Like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum?

Claire is rushed to the hospital and the docs say her whole system has been infected as if she's never been sick a day in her life.

Sylarelle do the nasty as Noah decides not to shoot them to give them some time to get it on, but he doesn't even pause long enough for the couple to share a post-coital cigarette. As she spots a laser dot aimed at Sylar's head, the two roll away before HRG can send off of lethal shot. They race out of the house - Sylar shirtless, Elle pantsless - but HRG gets a shot off and knicks Elle in the leg.

Mo's still dreaming of Maya while he's being grilled by Pa P on why they don't have their powers. Flint takes a lighter to Mo's hand and barely singes him (I've served plates hotter than that flame) and Mo cries in pain. Mo tries to trick Flint, but even he's not that dumb so Mo takes his Fisher-Price electron microscope and slams it into Flint's head (Metal against Flint - does that mean it'll spark and start a fire?)

Over at Sam's Comics, Ando and Hiro are trying to convince Sam to help them find out how to cure Hiro. They decide to go through all the back issues of 9th Wonders so Hiro can learn of his past. The current issue of 9th Wonder is the last posthumous issue that Isaac did. Hiro learns of his past where his father is killed, his girlfriend killed, and Hiro kills. As a 10 year old, he doesn't want to grow up to do this things so he locks himself in the bathroom. There was so much untapped potential for humor in these scenes and sadly it never came to fruition.

Matt sees Daphne is all her cerebral palsy glory. She was afflicted with the disease prior to the eclipse. She is trying to turn him away, but once the eclipse is over she is able to run again and takes off into the cornfield.

The eclipse ends and Hiro gets his powers back and he blinks away.

Sylarelle make it to their local CVS bleeding all the way. Sylar patches up Elle as best he can and gets her some boxer shorts and himself a shirt. Since they are at a disadvantage without their powers the only way to get the jump on HRG is to set a trap for him.

Peter and the Haitian rescue Nathan from his cell. Nathan and the Haitian take off as Peter stays behind to hold them back. How did a former nurse learned to use a rifle so expertly? Once The Haitian gets his powers back he uses them on his brother. Puts the Haitian Mind Meld on him. I'm not sure if he kills him or just took away his powers and made him forget? Looks like he killed him. Nathan tells Peter that he needs to go back to Pinehearst and leaves Peter to find his way back to the U.S. Embassy. Couldn't he have flown Peter to the embassy and drop him off? Do a brother a solid, will ya?

Claire is looking like crap. The cops come to question Mrs. Bennet but before they can ask her about Claire's gunshot wound, Claire flatlines and dies.

At the same time Claire is flatlining, Sylarelle make it to the back storage room of the store, but HRG is close behind. Sylar flings Elle into a service elevator to send her out of harm's way while he takes on HRG himself. He loses. HRG slits his throat just as Elle comes back up the elevator.

By the time HRG gets to his daughter, the eclipse is no more and she comes back from the dead. Mom sneaks her out of the hospital. Once HRG finds out she died and came back he realizes Sylar is probably back from the dead as well. Before he can do anything, Sylarelle has taken Sandra hostage.

At the same time in Kansas, Parkman goes back to Daphne's house but Daphne is gone. Parkman can hear her dad's thoughts and eventually can hear Daphne's. He goes out into the cornfield to find Shoeless Joe Jackson but finds Daphne instead talking to the scarecrow.

Mohinder goes to look for Maya who seems to have found a job with no legal papers and now lives in a swank apartment. He knocks on the door but sees he is transforming back to his creepy mutant self. Upon seeing that he hides in the stairwells before Maya can open the door. He sneaks off and returns to Pinehearst to work for Pa P again.

Sam talks Hiro into coming out of the bathroom. Looking at an old issue of 9th Wonder they see that Claire and Hiro are in the greenhouse back when Papa Nakamura handed Claire over to HRG.

Sylarelle has come to take Claire back to Pinehearst but HRG puts doubts in Sylar's mind as to the intentions of Pa P. Claire tells them she'll go with them. HRG tells Sylar that Pa and Ma P aren't his parents, that they are manipulating him. Sylar starts to slice open HRG's neck, but Hiro pops in and blinks Sylar away. He blinks back and takes Elle away too. He blinks back and takes Claire to the past - to the greenhouse where they hid to watch Papa Nakamura hand Claire over to HRG.

Parkman and Daphne show up at Sam's Comics but Hiro is already gone. No one knows where he went to. Parkman suggests looking at the next issue of 9th Wonder but the current issue is the last. Then Sam tells them that he heard from a dude at a convention who heard from another who heard from another dude (or something like that) that there is still one more story out there. That Isaac gave a bike messenger the last story. Find the messenger and then find the story. Wouldn't it be easier to find out where Claire lives and go to her home to try to track Hiro?

Hiro blinks Sylarelle to a beach. Sylar pretends to be a caring lover, but in the end he's starts to slice open Elle's head.

What did you think?

So much untapped potential. So many contrived plotlines that were eventually simply dropped as some sort of Author's Saving Throw. Le sigh.

The whole "Sylar suddenly becomes a good guy" story - ultimately all for nothing? Oh boy. I just hope they finally kill off Sylar. The character has been sacrificed on the altar of bad writing so many times, now please let him die before there's another lame twist for him.

Seth Green was awesome, though.

Well, they killed off Kristen Bell's character. That's gonna be hard to forgive. Adios, gorgeous.

Speaking of random spanish nonsense, was Maya actually in this episode? Must be nice from the actor's point of view. No lines; just open up a door, look at an empty hallway, collect a paycheck. "All of my fans are out there? Really? ... Oh."

I was all excited that they threw us a bone on the whole 9th Wonders thing, though. Posthumus! Brilliant! I'll happily ignore the fact that Isaac worked years ahead of his deadlines. Heroine junkies are known to be meticulous about deadlines, after all.

I am annoyed at how easily Clair and Mom got out of the hospital, though. Those cops aren't gonna leave because their gunshot wound person-thing died. They still have an investigation, and a grieving mom who's obviously lying about something. Throw us a bone on that one, too! I'm easy... tell us there was a donut spill nearby or something. Don't just ignore it and hope we won't notice.

Honestly, if the series is about to get good again, I'm willing to write off the last season and a half as a Bob Newhart-ish dream sequence. I don't demand much ... just quit writing such obvious plot holes.

Ah well. We'll see what tonight brings. I continue to hope. :)
