Heroes: 3.9 - It's Coming

Its-Coming.jpgLots of repercussions from Papa P's actions. First off, Hiro has regressed back to being a 10 year old after Papa P caressed his supple Asian ears. Ando tried to save him but got thrown off in the distance. Ando was trying to get Hiro to blink them out of there before Papa P got to them again. They blink to Tokyo (though it's unclear if it was Hiro who blinked them there or maybe Papa P?) Ando finds out Hiro thinks he's 10 years old and tries to re-teach him his powers. He succeeds pretty quickly and he blinks them to a comic book store so he can catch up on the latest comics. Ando grabs a Ninth Wonder to show Hiro what has recently happened. They flip to the last page to see a solar eclipse with the words "It's coming." It reminded me of that great scene in Spaceballs where Dark Helmet and Colonel Sandurz have the video version of the film and are fast forwarding to the "now" point in the movie and they are look at themselves right now.

Dark Helmet: What the hell am I looking at? When does this happen in the movie?
Colonel Sandurz: You're looking at now, sir. Everything that happens now is happening now.
Dark Helmet: What happened to then?
Colonel Sandurz: We passed then.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now. We're at now now.
Dark Helmet: Go back to then.
Colonel Sandurz: When?
Dark Helmet: Now!
Colonel Sandurz: Now?
Dark Helmet: Now!
Colonel Sandurz: I can't.
Dark Helmet: Why?
Colonel Sandurz: We missed it.
Dark Helmet: When?
Colonel Sandurz: Just now.
Dark Helmet: When will then be now?
Colonel Sandurz: Soon.

So it looks like Hiro still retained his powers. I'm guessing this means Peter has too, but probably hasn't tried to use his powers since the moment after his dad took them? Maybe in the moments after, he lacked his abilities temporarily? Peter is trying to escape with Claire's help. They are being hunted by Flint and Knox. Both think they are after Peter but it's actually Claire they are after. Peter is able to help her without his powers by turning a gas main on and taunting Flint to light up.

Papa P sends Sylar into a room to discover his empathy gene. In the room is Elle, who thought going to Pinehearst would help her but instead finds herself chained up like a bad remake of Clash of the Titans. Furious at Sylar for killing her dad and in a lot of emotional pain she sends jolt after jolt at Sylar. Bits fly off him as he is getting broasted which took me awhile to figure out it was his shirt burning off from the electricity. Once I realized that my first question was, "Is he wearing asbestos pants?" Where's the money shot? How come his Underoos and Levis didn't also fry off in the process? I'm pretty sure those are flammable too. I saw more skin on Chuck the hour before. Come on! And here I thought the title of the episode had to do with Elle and Sylar getting it on.

In any case, even with his pants on, he still managed to woo Elle and absorbed her powers without killing her (and absorbing her hurt). They were about to have a Harlequin moment when it's revealed to the audience that Papa P has been watching their foreplay the entire time. (Ewwwww!)

Nathan goes to find his mom while Tracy goes back into Pinehearst to cut a deal with Papa P.

Meanwhile, Parkman and Daphne are trying to figure out what's wrong with Mama P. Parkman goes into her mind and is stabbed by Daphne. Daphne in reality is trying to wake Parkman up and sees there's blood coming from his gut. She holds his hand and is pulled in. She convinces him that she's there to help him and that she's fallen for him while Papa P is trying to convince him otherwise. Mama P is able to use the art of persuasion (or her power?) to convince Papa P to release her from her comatose state.

Parkman asks Daphne if she really meant what she said in their alternate reality and she replies, "Yes." And then he... hugs her?! I don't know, if someone declared their love to me, I'd KISS them - wouldn't you? That was the least romantic coupling I've seen since watching Skinamax last weekend... :oD

Then, as if by movie magic, Nathan, Peter, and Claire arrive at Primatech New York at the same time to greet their awakening mother/grandmother. She tells them that there is a third piece of the formula - a catalyst but it was put in a human host and only Kaito knew who it was. Through some weird teenage-angst-ridden-Miley-Cyrus-Jonas-Brothers-deduction, Claire believes she is the catalyst and the rest nod in agreement. Sounds good enough to me!

There's a couple scenes with Mo who's transforming into who knows what? He's experimenting on some guy - I didn't catch where they found him.

Papa P goes into that milky trance and draws the eclipse. "It's coming," he says to his cohorts, including Sylar and Elle.

Who's writing the Ninth Wonder comics? I thought it was Isaac writing and illustrating them but clearly I'm wrong.

Wrote this from memory - didn't have time to rewatch the show as I usually do. If I missed anything, let me know!

What did you think?

I'm still stuck on those asbestos pants...

"... after Papa P caressed his supple Asian ears."

Brilliant, Connie. I nearly wept with laughter. :)

re: 9th Wonder Comics... the only thing I can figure is it's gotta be a plot hole. Mister Eesock is gone, Mister African Eesock is gone, Mama P doesn't paint, Parkman's too busy makin' moves on hyper-blondie... ah, it just gets sillier and sillier.

re: asbestos pants... I figure that Elle was only blasting from the torso up. What *I* wondered was, "Can Sylar recover from having his head knocked off?" I would have gone for the face, full-on, if I were Elle. Then again, I require really expensive special effects for *my* vengence.

Speaking of vengence, I'm not overly pleased with Elle making lovey-dovey eyes at Spocko. He killed her dad. They spend a half-hour or so in "therapy" and suddenly she's makin' moves on his bad self. Now, I speak truthfully here... If I leave the toilet set up, I'm in trouble for a half hour, easy. I figure if I killed my wife's dad, I'd be in the doghouse for a least a couple of days. Maybe longer.

Granted, Elle is not exactly "emotionally stable". Even so, I figure that if a known mass murderer looked me in the eye and suggested forgiveness, I *might* ask for a second opinion. I'm just sayin'.

I wish they'd make better use of Hiro. Last season, he spent a lot of time away from the main cast, in Feudal Japan. Now, he's spending time away from the main cast, in a bowling alley. Not sure if that's an upgrade or not (depends on your point of view, I guess). I fully expect to see him steal some bubble gum and comic books in the next episode. High drama, I guess.

Oh well. It's not all wonky. I like the setup of "us" vs "them" (I was going to say "good" vs "evil", but those lines are blurred). I like Petey having to be resourceful w/out his powers.

Here's hoping the confrontation they've set up for us will pay off.

Oh, and by the way... any conversation that involves quoting "Spaceballs" is a good one indeed. Nicely done. :)

May the Schwartz be with you!

@Chuck - Isn't your body a conduit? Like they say don't stand in an open field during a lightning storm? If you get struck by lightning, it hits the top of you to travel through you to get to the ground, right? Even if Elle hit him in the torso, shouldn't that electricity run through him to escape through his feet? I really wanted to know if he was a boxer or briefs guy... And if he was wearing a belt, that metal in the buckle would have surely put some serious grill marks on his stomach!

You're right about Elle, but I have to think she liked him before and maybe her love for her "dad" was misguided because she had no one else to turn to - I don't know where I'm going with this, but they need to bring in Judge Harry Stone from Night Court like on 30 Rock to do his magic to these plots!

Now, Connie... don't go makin' sense. Nothing good can come of that. :)

Don't forget that Elle was falling for Sylar/Gabriel already. She had some emotional ties there before this happened, and he was a lot nicer to her than her "Dad" ever was....

I was just as highly disappointed by the asbestos pants. They never would have left clothes on a woman in the same situation!
