Heroes: 3.7 - Eris Quod Sum

Eris-Quod-Sum.jpgWe open with Ando and Hiro having a lover's quarrel over why or why not Hiro should or should not go back in time to see how he can defeat the villains. Hiro doesn't want to go back and tamper with time. It's gotten him in too much trouble already. Usutu tells Hiro that he can either choose his own path or have one chosen for him.

Nathan and Tracy are in a standoff with Mohinder. He wants to experiment on them a little more and they're like, "Heeeellll nooooooo!" Frustrated, Mohinder grabs Maya from her cocoon and flies (?) off with her through the ceiling. Nathan and Tracy look dumbfounded.

Mo takes Maya to Pinehearst where Pa P takes her powers. Ungrateful, Maya plans on going back to where she came from (yee-haw!) and does give Mo a second thought. She takes her suitcase (where did she get her suitcase anyway if Mo jetted her over there?) Can one hope that this is the last we'll see of her?

Mo wants to know if Pa P can take his powers away and when asked if he really wants that Mo tells him that he injected himself with an unstable formula. He wants to fix it but he wants to keep his powers. Pa P offers an alternative. Work in the lab at Pinehearst and fix his own problems while working on theirs.

Peter's without his powers and dreaming of the day he learned his dad died. Apparently, it wasn't that long ago - about a year or so - when he died. He wakes up to find himself chained to a gurney, Dad nearby reading a book. With parents like these, who needs enemies?

Meanwhile, Ma P is still in a coma, but has enough power to show up in a vision to Sylar, telling him to get his ass out of there and go save his brother, Peter. She tells Sylar that he's her favorite but once he's over at Pinehearst to save Peter, he hears a totally different story from Pa P who tells him that Sylar was his favorite and Ma P tried to kill him when he was a baby after she saw a vision of the future and the destruction Sylar would cause.

Claire and her pompous self and her mom return home to find their lights flickering. Once inside, they see Lyle sprawled on the floor and Elle spazzing out electrically in their home. She and Claire get into a little catfight but Lyle comes to the rescue and dumps a bucket of water onto Elle, causing her to shortcircuit.

Elle is a mess. She can't control her power ever since she overloaded and sent all the Level 5s free. Elle wants to talk to Noah to see if there's anything that can be done. Once Claire and she get talking they both realize they have a link to Pinehearst. Arrogant Claire suggests they go to Pinehearst without consulting dad. Um, haven't you learned your lesson yet with Puppetmaster? Geez.

First off, you'd think Elle would have heard about Pinehearst in all her time working for Primatech. Secondly, you'd also think Elle would have more common sense than Claire and be rational enough to say, "I want to talk to your dad first."

The two get on a plane but Elle is a nervous flyer. Not a good thing when she can't control her power either. She sends the plane into a electrical malfunction and it's Claire who offers to help by absorbing her errant powers and diverting it from the fuselage and electrical systems of the plane.

Pa P wants Daphne to kill Matt, but Maury protests. He only agreed to help Pa P if Arthur would protect Matt. Pa P has had enough of Maury's lip and snaps his neck, killing him. Or has he? I guess we won't know if Maury is really dead or just an illusion until we see if he appears again in future episode.

Daphne goes to Matt to kill him but can't. He uses his power and sees that his dad is dead. She knows they'll send another and sure enough they do. They send Knox. He kills them both but we soon see that was just an illusion Parkman created while they hid in safety. Daphne wants to run, but Matt wants to stay and fight.

Sylar saves Peter from being a test subject for Mo, but not before Mo attacks Sylar and bangs his head like he's listening to 80s hair bands. Peter takes off since there's not much he can do without any powers. Mo is stopped by Pa P who reveals to Mo that Sylar is his son.

Siding with dad, Sylar sends Peter flying out the window on Dad's orders. Without any powers, you'd think Peter is going to fall to his death, but he doesn't. Looks like Sylar slowed his fall enough so that he wouldn't die (or does Peter still have powers he doesn't realize?) So is Sylar working covertly for Ma P or has he turned back to his old ways and is now working for Pa P? Oy.

Claire and Elle are just walking up the steps to Pinehearst when they see Peter falling to a nice splat on the ground. Once Elle hears that Peter's powers were taken, she feels like her troubles will soon be over. Claire helps Peter to safety but Elle feels she has no choice and goes into Pinehearst.

Meanwhile, Nathan and Tracy hang around Mo's lab waiting for Primatech. If it were me I would have said, "Meet you at the corner deli and bring reinenforcements." Noah shows up with his new partner for now, Meredith. After revealing their relationships to each other Tracy is dizzy with confusion as she tries to wrap her head around the fact that Meredith and Nathan had a kid and Noah is her adoptive parent. Doesn't seem that complicated to me...

While Noah and Meredith are overseeing the cleanup of Mo's place, Nathan gets a call from Claire about Peter. Nathan and Tracy head over to Peter's place. Nathan is shocked and in disbelief that their dad is alive but once Claire reveals he works at Pinehearst, Tracy is surprised. Looks like she's been a consultant for them for awhile.

Hiro is give that delicious paste Usutu makes from the roots of a tamboti tree and hyena dung. Looks like homemade peanut butter, IMO. Hiro's eyes go white and he falls over. Ando thinks Usutu has done something to Hiro, but all they can do is wait for Hiro to come out of his crap-induced hallucination.

In the split second before Pa P took Peter's powers, couldn't one say that Peter probably already had dad's powers and could have countered by taking dad's powers away from him had he known what his dad's powers were?

The phrase "Eris Quod Sum" is Latin and translates as "You will be what I am".

Did Ma P have Pa P killed?

Could anyone see what the title of the book was that Pa P was reading while he was keeping an eye on Peter? I saw that it had a butterfly on the cover so I assume it has something to do with The Butterfly Effect.

Nathan was already sworn in as senator, right? The only person that calls him or Tracy is Claire? No one else is trying to reach the senator who has been gone for a couple days, at least?

What did you thinK?

Ever notice how every time Merideth walks into a room, she holds out her right hand palm up and burns a little? I'm having trouble understanding why she wants to introduce herself to everybody like that.

"Hi, I'm Merideth, I can burn things. No, don't shake hands, you might have noticed mine's on fire because I can burn things. Oh, thanks for your business card whoops there it went, you know I can burn things."

Good point regarding Nathan and his phone. You'd think lobbyest thingers would be following him around and ringing his phone off the hook. I still wonder why Hiro's phone doesn't ring, also. Big important people get bothered by underlings, it's the natural order of things.

I was OK with Sylar being portrayed as a recovering addict this season, I really was. The "Momma's Boy" stuff was getting old, but I was carefully ignoring it. But now, after 2 whole minutes with his dad, he's turned on momma? This is not the Sylar from Season 1... single-minded, dangerous... no, now he's a leaf in the wind, happily floating from one personality to another. If he's so easily influenced, I wish he'd come walkin' down my street.

"Hey, Syl... um... Gabriel! I'm your... let's see... Uncle! No, wrong age... I'm your cousin! Yeah, twice removed. And you were always my *favorite* cousin, you know. None of those other cousins loved you like I did. Now, trust me completely and mow my yard. Don't forget the weed whacker."

Two more weeks until the next new episode. Blah! I hope it's better than this one.

By the way...
- I think 'Mo super-jumped, not flew
- Put me down in the office pool for "Maury is really dead".
- Sylar slowed Petey's fall, Petey is in fact powerless. The only other alternative is...
- Papa P slowed Petey's fall. In either case, there's no tellin' why.
- Petey prolly did absorb papa's powers just before the Big Suck-Hug (BSH), but certainly not in time to realize what was going to happen or how he could stop it.
- Mamma P didn't kill Papa P... "I thought you were dead." "That's the idea." He faked his death (or hid his survival, or something)

I think that Sylar/Gabriel is just playing his cards close to his chest. Who would you believe if all of this was happening to you? I'd go with the flow and make up my mind later.

I also hope that it is the last we will see of Maya, I don't care who gave her the suitcase. I am just glad it is helping her go.

My bigger fear is -- is Maya's power really something we want Papa P to have?

I am now wondering how Peter gets his scar. Obviously it happens sometime now while he is powerless. Hmmm.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

I am curious to see if Papa P can give his powers as freely as he can take them.

The whole time travel thing throws me off because is this the same timeline where Peter gets his scar and powers back in the future or are we on a whole other timeline now?

Elle's back for the duration of the "Villains" volume. Next volume is "Fugitives".

I don't like that fact that the show is bringing up Pinehearst in the 3rd season. I really do enjoy the show though, even some of the cheesy aspects of it, ala Maya and her suitcase. I also struggle with timeline issues as I do in LOST. Doc Brown made it much simpler.:)

Why didn't Nathan fly after Mo super-jumped like Mario off of a mushroom?

Last week, why didn't Hiro travel back in time to warn Ando about Adam causing a scene in the bar and escaping? He traveled back to save Ando.

I assume Peter is/was like Pa P, just as Parkman is like Maury, still a little ignorant on the extent of his abilities. Question is, why can Nathan ONLY fly? You would think if he was Peter and Sylar's brother, he could do more than just fly.

I thought it was rather obvious that Sylar is playing both sides for now, but who knows, maybe that is what they are leading us to beleive.

I think Nathan doesn't have more powers because his power is synthetic and not natural like Peter's.

As for Hiro, I guess he doesn't want to use the time travel power but will in a case of emergency (In case of an emergency, BLINK here.)

Was Nathan weak from the shot Mo gave him and Tracy?

-- Posted by: Connie at November 3, 2008 7:12 PM

Why would Nathan's power be synthetic? Does inheriting powers from the parents skip the first born? Or is he not really a blood relative. Now I am confused.

Last ep Tracy and Nathan found out their powers were synthesized.
