Last night's episode could have doubled as a PSA for automobile safety! The surgical interns gather in the ER to await the arrival of several ambulances carrying victims of a multi-car crash. A pregnant women, her husband, mother (guest star Frances Fisher) and father arrive and initial results indicate they're all going to be okay until a CAT scans revels massive internal injuries to the pregnant patient. Suddenly it's all hands on deck as the surgical team struggles to save her life and the life of her unborn baby.
While most of the staff works on the family, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is assigned to work with Derek (Patrick Dempsey) taking care of the driver of the car responsible for the accident, a man named Marshal who's an intern at a rival hospital in Seattle. Derek is clearly angry and upset at Meredith after seeing her decked out in "Dr. McVet's" (Chris O'Donnell) clothing the night before. He alternates between yelling at her and glaring at her with disgust. Every time she attempts to talk with him, he snaps "now is not the time" and storms off. Finally, Meredith has had enough of his boorish behavior and she corners him in the stairwell. "I never should have told you about George " she says. "I'm glad I know. And about the vet. You really get around. Who's next? Alex? Because I hear he really likes to get around. You two have that in common" replies Derek. The gloves are off and Meredith comes out swinging. " You don't have the right to call me a whore. When I met you I thought I found the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with. So all the boys, all the bars and all the obvious daddy issues, who cared because I thought I was done! You left me. You choose Addison. I'm all glued back together now and I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what you broke. You don't get to call me a whore." Her speech looks like it may have softened Derek. He looks sympathetic and sorry for about a second but then he responds, " this thing with us is finished, it's over." Meredith shoots back, " finally. It is done" and they both storm off.
Later, as the pregnant patient lies in ICU, near death, Marshall, wracked with guilt admits to Meredith that he sat in on a 10 hour surgery after a 30 plus hour shift at the hospital and he fell asleep at the wheel while on his way home from work. It's a familiar scenario to all of the surgical interns at Seattle Grace. Izzy (Katherine Heigl) admits to falling asleep on a bench in the hospital parking lot and Meredith says she recently fell asleep in a restaurant while on a date. Their confessions pale in comparison to Christina's (Sandra Oh) admission that fell asleep in the middle of having sex with Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington) the night before. Apparently he was not very happy to have to call off the tryst before "mission accomplished" had been declared and he accuses Christina of working too hard at the sacrifice of her personal life.
Meanwhile, Dr. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) and Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) are also at odds today. After her first "sleep over" at George's house, Callie, wearing nothing but lace underwear saunters into the bathroom and plops herself on the toilet for a pee, right under the nose of Meredith and Izzy, who are in the bathroom talking and getting ready for work. When she's done she stands up and to her horrified audience's dismay, walks out without washing her hands! Apparently an offense worse than murder in the eyes of our doctor friends. Later when they rat her out to George, instead of defending her he reminds her to wash her hands before treating a patient. Callie is pissed. Izzy and Meredith are becoming a thorn in her side and an obstacle in her relationship with George.
Things get worse when Izzy, assigned to assist Callie in surgery, blows her off after getting a page about Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). He was found slumped over in the hallway after getting out of bed and attempting to walk the stairs. Dr. Burke admonishes him for pushing himself too far and tells Denny that because of this set back he will not be allowed to go home. Denny lashes out at Dr. Burke and tells him that he has no right to tell him what he can and can not do. Later Izzy attempts to cheer him up with chocolate but Denny gets mad at her for not understanding what he's going through. He tell her, "you should have let me die". At the end of the night, she returns and hops onto the bed. He's calmed down and is glad Izzy is there for him. He even asks her if you can cop a feel. Apparently, all Denny really needed was a snuggle and a bit of foreplay.
Later that night George finds Callie sulking in her creepy room at the hospital. She's wearing her "flashdance" sweatshirt again and laying in bed when George crawls in next to her. She explains that she left the bathroom quickly because Izzy and Meredith were looking at her like she was "a rodent". She tells George she went down to the kitchen to wash her hands and then tells him "you have to stand up for me. You have to say I washed my hands." George comforts her and apologizes for his behavior.
Meredith, fresh from her knock down with Derek, is over at Dr. McVet's and tells him they may be making a mistake. "You don't want to get involved with me. If you really knew me and you knew my family. If I told you the guys I've slept with lately. It may be more than you can a handle." Dr. McVet tells her that he isn't so perfect either. His mother died when he was 10 after a long battle with cancer, his father is an alcoholic, and his wife was killed in a car accident "so don't worry. I'm thinking that my life is beginning to change because I met you. I never said I wasn't scary and damaged too." They kiss. End of show.
I'm thinking we're going to have to wait longer than May sweeps to see Meredith and Derek back together. Although, during the scenes from next week's two part season finale, we hear but don't see Addison asking someone in a very accusatory and angry tone "did you sleep with my husband?" What do you make of that? Stay tuned!
I really liked the show. The first that had caught my attention is that its about doctors. I'm a doctor from the philippines and a kidney specialist (nephrologist). I could easily relate to troubles and concerns/life of the trainees especially in the early years of training where you're in awe with your mentors when practically, they just came ahead before you do and as your training progresses, you get to know and understand what they're doing and you're as equipped as them training wise. Its just they came first.
I do have noticed the repeated utterances of the word seriously. In the true medical life/scenario, you get to her this medical/surgical people use the word TOXIC most of the times. That is, they are swamped with work, or their seniors are giving them a hard time, i.e. my duty last night was very toxic. Or i can't do this or that because as it is, im very toxic with this patient of mine.

OMG!!! I am completely addicted to this show! I so want Mer & Der together again, but by the way he's acting lately, I'm not so sure about it! Plus, the Vet is really sweet and could be very good to Meredith. She needs someone like him, someone who will just be there for her no matter what. He seems to not care about her past, he just knows that she makes him feel great and that's it. Like he said to her at the end of «Damage Case», I think my life is changing because I met you...» I mean, no woman can stand still after such a honest, sweet revelation. And I don't think Meredith will. The way I see it, Meredith never really liked herself that much, I mean with all the boys and stuff. Of course, after all the Derek drama, that sure as hell didn't levelled up her self esteem! So, I'm really glad that she's with the vet now. He's good for her and wants her to be happy, in my opinion. Hope she doesn't blow him off if Mcdreamy suddenly wants her back after realizing the jerk he's been though. Seriously!!!!!!!!!!
