They made us wait three weeks for a new episode and another look at "Dr. Vet." (Chris O'Donnell) who's treating Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) dog, "Doc". O'Donnell has finally shed his boy wonder look . I think this might just be his first role playing a grown up where he actually looks like one- and a mighty cute one at that! Once again the sparks are flying between he and Meredith. If only she could stop muttering, put down her knitting needles and cough out a coherent sentence I might start to like her again. Lately Meredith's been bugging me with her really bad hair (I can't stand the wispy wings on the side of her head), her willingness to sleep with anyone who walks by and her idiotic need to tell Derek every last detail of her life no matter how counter productive it may be to the goal of winning him back! At this point, I'm so annoyed by Meredith I'm actually routing for Addison!
The day begins with Meredith at Dr. Vet's office trying to coordinate Doc's pick up later in the day. Derek's at home, having just finished a round of "really bad sex" with Addison (Kate Walsh). He's getting ready to try to redeem himself with another go when the phone rings. It's Meredith, but Addison, thinking it's the vet, grabs the phone and says "we're trying to have some really decent sex here" so we'll have to call you back - and hangs up. As Meredith hangs up the phone she looks hurt by the reality that Derek and Addison are having sex but there's a smirk behind it the look- at least it's bad sex.
George (T.R.Knight) on the other hand is finally getting lucky with Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez). They've been hooking up in her secret hospital love nest for days now and she hasn't cried once! That's got to be an ego boost for poor George. Now, a quickie in the supply closet I get, but are we really supposed to believe George and Callie are living in a secret room at the hospital and having good, loud, lovin' every night with nobody noticing? It's time for the writers to find these two a decent room.
Once everyone finally gets out of bed and decides to head to Seattle Grace hospital for a little work, Addison prepares to deliver a patient's 7th child. Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) has been assigned as her intern for the day, despite his declaration that "he doesn't do vaginas". The patient asks Addison to tie her tubes during her C-section without telling her religious husband. She's done having kids but he doesn't believe in birth control. Addison is uncomfortable with the deception but Alex is openly hostile toward the women and he and Addison spar over the ethical dilemma. During surgery Addison claims the tubal legation is medically necessary due to a "complication" with the delivery. Despite Alex's protests, she performs the procedure. After surgery the patient's distraught husband questions Alex. He hints that the procedure wasn't medically necessary and suggests the family hire an attorney. He's betrayed Addison and now she may face an expensive lawsuit because her patient refuses to admit to her husband that Addison was merely adhering to her request. Now Addison has it out for Alex (and rightly so). She tells him she is going to request he be assigned to her from now on so she can make his life a living hell.
Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) fears she's being "mommy tracked" because since returning from maternity leave she has yet to be scheduled for a surgery and Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) won't let her handle any serious cases. Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington) agrees with her and assigns her to Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) for the day, along with Meredith. Meredith and Dr. Bailey want to put Denny on a mobile heart machine so he can get out of bed and have more freedom but Izzy (Katherine Heigl) has told him not to do it because she fears potential complications could jeopardize his health. Dr. Bailey figures out that there is more than just a doctor/patient relationship going on here but when she grills Meredith, Meredith covers for Izzy and denies it. Denny decides he wants to be put on the mobile unit despite Izzy's fears. There are some initial problems, but overall the procedure is a success. When Izzy visits him at the end of the day he's able to walk over to her and give her a hug. Dr. Bailey just so happens to be walking by at this moment but instead of break them up, she chooses to overlook the clear ethical violation. Maybe motherhood is making her a softy?
A divorce lawyer patient suffering from seizures triggered by her client's arguing has a seizure when George and Izzy begin to argue about why he moved out the house. George accuses Izzy of setting him up for failure when she encouraged him to put the moves on Meredith. Later, the patient tells George to forgive and forget. It's clear George and Izzy have a strong bond and a love for each other that shouldn't be wasted. That night George and Callie arrive back at Izzy and Meredith's house and George tells Izzy he's moving back home. Izzy is so happy to have George back she willing to accept Callie as George's girlfriend, at least for now.
Meredith, after initially turning down "Dr. Vet's" request for a date, has second thoughts and shows up at his office as he's closing up shop for the day. Instead of dinner and a movie they head to a barn where Meredith helps him deliver a horse. When they get back to the office he invites her upstairs to his apartment to clean up. He offers to let her shower and change into one of his shirts and then he'll cook dinner for her. She wants to go but tells him she's celibate and will not be having sex with him (at this point I'm thinking her vow of celibacy will last another 5 to 10 minutes at best). He promises her he will not try to have sex with her and they head upstairs. Wouldn't you know it, a short time later, Derek is at the door. Doc is sick and needs urgent care. It's time to cue Meredith with her wet head, a man's shirt on and possibly that "I just got laid" look, to walk down the stairs to see what all the commotion is about. Derek takes one look at her, sizes up the situation and whack! He looks like he just got smacked in the gut again! He's probably thinking, "damn, this chick sure gets around!"
Back at home, he's suddenly feeling in the mood. It's clear he's ready to let Meredith go and focus on his relationship with Addison. He strips down, tells Addison to do the same and orders her into the shower for "some hot sex". I"m thinking we're going to have to wait a while to see Meredith and Derek together again. Then again, May sweeps is right around the corner so stay tuned!
