Dare I say today's show had a lot of heart to it?!?! Was I really watching the same show I dreaded all week?
I've got to say I was very impressed with almost all of the show.
We'll start with Sonny. I'm so glad I decided to not fast foward the therapy sessions. I've always been interested in Sonny's background especially his mother, Adella and stepfather, Deke. I think Lainey has touched on the root of most of Sonny's problems. He doesn't want to admit that his mother should have done more to protect him. Some powerful stuff from everybody invovled. It got me thinking that I would love to have Taggert back in town. Not only did he know Sonny and Deke back in the day...I'd love to see a love interest for Lainey. I also think Deke somehow being alive could be another powerful story for Maurice. I do think they could have/should have left out Lainey upping the dosage of his meds...I mean....how long has he been on them? A day?
I did do a lot of fast forwarding in the Georgie/Dillon stuff. I have a hard time watching the mushy stuff because well...it's mushy. Not to mention I've grown tired of these two together. Not that I couldn't possibly get back into them...but there needs to be a new direction for these two.
Today's nice surprise was the scenes between Carly and Nikolas. I dig when characters that don't get along have civil conversations and show some humanity towards one another. Laura is doing a bang up job as Carly and made me feel Carly's happiness. And how hot is Nikolas these days? Yum! Hearing them discuss Thanksgiving and lil John's relationship to both Carly and Alexis' kids helps remind us that these folks do actually have family ties...we just don't see enough of it. And Jax's postcard can only mean it won't be long till he's back in the mix. (I'm hearing August 25th)
I guess there were two nice surprises for me today. The Patrick/Robin scenes were some of the most powerful on GH I've seen in a long time. It's the first time we've seen real emotion from Patrick and I have to hand it to Jason for being able to bring up those tears/watery eyes. Got me all misty eye'd too. I love a show that honors history and uses flashback clips. Yay!!! Yay!!! Yay!!! for the short but sweet Robin/Stone flashback. His death (which you can see by doing a search on YouTube) ranks right up there with BJ's death as one of the best stories ever told. The heart to heart on the docks between these two was fabulous. I'm still not sure about these two as a couple but I can't deny the chemistry.
I still can't believe I enjoyed today's show. Damn you, GH! Here I am about to give up on you and you give me an overall well written, well acted episode. Can we please have more?
This is what happens when you have to be at work really early. I second most of what you both have said with a few additions/exceptions.
Details PTB - details. Your viewers aren't that stupid - get the details right. Little things like Robin washing off the possibly "end stage AIDS infected touched" bloodied wound on Patrick's hand WITHOUT gloves on. Hello? Anybody home?
Regarding the Lainey/Sonny scenes, Sonny was really good. Lainey was good in the lines she was given - but I second Sheridan's wiping tears from her eyes and raise her a few whooping laugh-the-hell-right-out-louds! They got that so wrong that there's no way to even describe it.
Again -- as a work of fiction with two friends having an intense dialogue it was excellent. As for Lainey being what they profess she is professionally. Well. Whew - that was one good laugh.
Dave - thanks a whole heck of a lot....Sheridan now has her GH addiction in a new form. Oy. I think Lucky isn't as hooked as she is. And hey - thank goodness you're no Maxie, so we can be greatful for something.
:-) Have a great weekend!
You don't even sound like your usual snarky self - damn - the snark is fun - is it you Dave or your good twin "Rave"? But I agree with you on most of it.
I loved Sonny in the therapy scenes - he was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC HONEST AND
AUTHENTIC as the character. He also was way hotter in these scenes than he has been lately - uh-oh - I do need that vacation.....
As for Lainey's lines I won't even go there because there isn't enough ether on the internet for me to cover all the ways they messed up her shrink role in the session and after. I'm still wiping the tears from eyes and that's from whooping it up with laughter but again - that's an occupational hazard when watching this stuff. Suffice it to say that Sonny was spectacular on his own. Hello? what was that upping of the meds - it felt like a punishment for the stuff he said and I'm glad he mentioned it to Emily - (who looked great in that dress by the way)
I'm with you on the Nicholas yum factor and the scenes with Carly. He looks hot, hot, hot - keep the man in light blue it looks great on him! And god forgive me I'm starting to like Carly. LW is really terrific and maybe they're using her as a way to change Carly - it's a good seg. Is that what that postcard was? Thanks for the clarification. By the way - the bellboy who delivered it was way cute eye-candy.
Dillon and Georgie were kind of cute and I do love that song they were playing which I believe was the Robin/Patrick in Jakes on GNO song. Don't know what it is. I guess generic-two-people-falling-(back)-in-love music. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.
Now. For the really good stuff Patrick and Robin. Great stuff. I'm with you on loving the flashback with Stone - that stuff had me weeping for months it was amazing back in the day....perhaps? dare a girl dream? good stuff once again?
JT was really good and the weepy stuff was great - even the way he wasn't able to actually be physical with her for emotional comfort - that moment at the end was really, really good. I liked her again a bit more today - although where I was once a rabid fan of the pairing - like you - I'm not so sure now but they were terrific.
I have one snarky little thing about their scene but since you set a really nice tone for the day - I'll behave. Damn. I hate behaving.
So this is what it's come to. I'm exhausted from the day from hell - and it felt like hell with humidity here in NYC but I have to drag my fingers and snark over to the computer to read what you wrote and put in my two cents.
Damn - Dave- Rave - whichever one you are - how many forms can a GH addiction take???????
