General Hospital: Reconnecting and Disconnecting

We had a little bit of both during our visit to Port Chuckles today...Let's start out with the reconnecting, shall we?

Patrick and Robin both showed up at the MetroCourt for the lunch arranged by Noah. I had high hopes for this meeting of the docs because I really want to get back to liking them...esp. since they aren't exactly a lot of couples on this show to even pull for. Not sure what to think. It didn't sound to me like they really solved anything. It's sex with no strings but wiser? What the hell is that? I'm not sure I understand how things are going to be different? Ladies...help me out! I do like that Robin has said she'll stop overanalyzing everything....but other than that how are they smarter about moving forward? And it wouldn't be GH without a skeevy reference to having sex while in a conversation with your parent....as if watching GH isn't uncomfortable enough.

Now to the disconnect....lot of that going around today. Diego decided not to sleep with Georgie till his stomach is a six pack. Ok...ok...ok...so his reasons were a bit more chilvarious but he still might consider asking "Pop" to trade the boat for a Bowflex. Dillon shows up and admits he was wrong about she and Diego sleeping together. Too bad he didn't stop there. Noooo...D boy has to go and grovel for forgiveness. Ummm...hello. Girlfriend/wife...writing letters to a sex offender...kissy kissy at prom? No need for the grovel. Then Georgie Porgie has the balls to tell Dillon that she can never trust him again? Whatever. You're better off alone, Dillon. I used to really love these two both seperate and apart but I think Georgie takes the cake for GH Whiney Sanctamonious Girl. Not to mention bitch might want to save the high and mighty act for when she's not nearly scrompin' in her soon to be ex hubby's boat house. I expected Dillon to really let loose on Leslie Lu and was surprised he didn't. Even though I totally don't agree with what Lu did...I felt for her today. Poor thing has no real family to depend on and Dillon is the closest thing to consistency she's known. (Although I do wish every once in awhile she'd thank Grandma Leslie for taking care of her when she was young and had black hair). I'm still not...and doubt I ever will...feel anything for Diego and Georgie. Just ain't gonna happen.

Hmmm..what else did we have today? Oooooh yeah...Carly the sleuth. It wont' be long till she and Jason figure the whole thing out. (That rattle you hear is my eyes rolling) This is what I've referenced before. Jason and Carly always swoop in and save the day. I truly believe that Ric was trying to help Sonny in his own way and that everything he said to Lainey today about both Jason and Carly was spot on. (ok...most of it) Yeah...Carly has reason to hate Ric for chaining her to a wall (I'd prefer to shake his hand but that's me) but Ric does care about his brother beyond controlling him. I even liked Emily today as she stood up to Carly and kicked her ass out of the house that Sonny built. But boy oh boy...was that an anvil dropping at the end of the show with Carly telling Em that she might not be the right woman for Sonny if she can't accept that he's ruthless, controlling...blah blah blah. I can see it coming...can't you?

If there are any spoiler free people left on the planet...read no further!

Ok...so we now know that Emily/Sonny (according to an interview with Maurice) will be ending soon. Not sure about you guys...but I think it sucks. I haven't been a fan of Sonny's since the Brenda days and not a fan of Emily since Amber left the role....but...at least with these two together we were spared two other couples: Sonny/Carly and Nikolas/Emily. Now what are we gonna do?!? Are our days really going to be filled with S/C redux #346783 and Nik/Em #16434!?!? I...can't...take...it.
We also learned today that GH has it a new (all time?) low for ratings...average was what? 2.4 million for last week? I know that hit that low number at least one day...(the god awful Boys Night Out, I think) How sad is this? Usually I don't like to see a show suffer because daytime soaps are already a dying breed...but this show needs major help and it needs to start behind the scenes. Bob Guza...you need to go! NOW!

So my friend (a military shrink) sends me an email today - and another friend in the middle of another part of the war-torn Middle East (an intensive care nurse) sends me an email today - and do I answer them? Do I even read them? No. You know why? Because I'm here because I must, must dis about GH.
(Great friend I know - please don't tell them - you either "Long Time Fan")

Now. On to what's really important.
I only watched the Patrick and Robin stuff so far. I'm with you on that one - great recap. I wasn't really rooting for them to get back together because I'm so over her with him. Disappointiiiiiiiiiiiing.

First of all - no chemistry. No heat. No nada. He has heat all on his own as far as I'm concerned and that close-up shot of his hand had me swooning (don't ask - females are odd) so I was happy to watch the rest of him... but the two of them together? Cold as ice. And Robin is suddenly a "do me" girl? Please. People tell me all their secrets and believe me - a Robin type isn't suddenly feeling comfy enough with a guy she's more than half in love with to say "do me". Carly saying it? Sure. Kellie. Sure. Lulu - getting there. Tracey - you know it. Alexis - while she's wearing her leather. But Robin?

And of course - doesn't everyone discuss their sex lives with their parental units? At work? In front of the person they're sexing it up with? After the parent fixed them up? Hey I do it all the time. Why just today my Mom came to my office and she was waiting out in the waiting room and when I went to get the next person we shmoozed about the down-and-dirty. It was such a mother-daughter moment. Of course it didn't compare to last week when my Dad showed up and I can't wait until next week when my grandmother is coming for a visit.

But back to the two of them - I'm with you about "what the hell just happened?" same old - same old. If they just needed to get some - then it makes sense but helloooooooooo she's so dishonest about what she wants and what she'll be able to deal with.
Patrick? How in touch is he with his feelings? Amazing - I've known guys like him (dated waaaaaay too many - but hey this is NYC) and worked with them and they aren't that in touch with what's going on internally. They're in touch alright - but not internal not that kind of insight.
Again - he could be reciting the Canadian anthem and I would listen so I didn't care but nope. They blew that one (as it were).

Noah blew me away with his line to Patrick about having been loved by an amazing woman and been alone and the first is better. That should be in Relationships 101 in all frat houses and boys' educations. Great line and he looked so tortured I loved him desperately. Maybe he and Robin would be a better couple. Actually I wish they'd give him a love interest. Skye when she comes back maybe?

I'll be back after I watch the rest - but the spoiler. Hmmmm. I actually hadn't heard that Sonny's breaking up with Emily. Thank goodness the two of them together are such a snoooooooze.

I also haven't liked Emily since Amber left - this one is a disaster but someone sure does like her....

Emily and Nik? Snoozefest too. He gets very wooden around her - no pun intended cause she's wooden around him too. I kind of like him lately though- hated him with Courtney. I think he and Robin would be a good match. Uptight and stuffy.

As for the numbers being down? I am so not surprised. It takes everything I have to keep watching and I'm a GH addict. (No Lucky - stay away from my VCR!!!! NO!!!!)

I told you Dave - they need us and I'm not kidding. It would be a shame for the show to go down the tubes totally.

I forgot to mention that the friend in the military sent the email from Baghdad - and I've been ignoring it for GH. So how - how could TPTB be messing it up so badly for someone like me who would do that? Hey PTB - Guza inc. - give us a shout-out and we'll tell you how to fix what's definitely broke. Broke baaaaaaaaaad.

Running to the train BUT - have to keep priorities in mind so here I am!

First of all I figured out why the writing is so bad! Did you read the little mention in the news that Osama Bin Laden's neice or someone - well he'd been holding her captive and then released her. Guess where she went? To the US. Guess what she was doing until now? Writing for one of the soaps (ATWT)! Well apparently they let her go and she's not writing for them anymore. (No joke - could you make this stuff up? I don't think so - it's too crazy for fiction - I read it in the paper).

So here's my theory - Saddam Hussein is not really in prison and on trial. It's his twin Maddam Hussein we see on tv on trial.

Saddam is actually free and writing for GH!!!!! Don't all the pieces fit in now? The violence? The way the women are portrayed? The main character with the DARK, SWARTHY good looks? The one with severe, psychological problems? Killing, shooting. Prez of the Grassy Knoll you know I'm right!

Well, now that we've got that straight. Here are some real quick thoughts (no - I won't be able to grab a cup of coffee before the subway because I'm writing this!)

First things first - Patrick and Robin while seeing it straight through had less chemistry than the no chemistry that I thought they had - and the hand thing was weird because it cut straight from Ric so I thought he was taking Lainey's hand and -

I thought Ric was so inappropriate with her but I was still surprised that he was taking her hand. She, on the other hand - what's all that having lunch with her patient's entire address book? Hello? Lainey-girl love you, really - but not appropriate.

The chemistry is good though - maybe Lainey and Ric? They good give her a really good story line.

Loved your Dillon take - he's working on those abs from what I hear - "Milo" is his trainer and apparently trains the whole gang there - including the Guzanator. Except for Diego apparently - argh - he really looks like his own granpa - which, since this is a soap might be the case....

I thought Dillon was great and I happen to like those two together and their scenes.

Georgie and Dillon seem to me to have the best relationship talks? You're gonna tell me that in Port C. the "teens" have it more together than any of the adults? Georgie was teriific and I even liked her for a minute.

What shocked the *&^% out of me was that I liked CARLY yesterday. (Please don't tell "Long Time Fan" she'll never speak to me again!) She was talking some real sense.

Emily has memorized one too many textbooks. Ok she might have some valid points but she seems to have "first year med student" syndrome - but with other people - diagnosing everyone with every illness. And those that take it all from the textbooks - watch out - Carly at least is mixing it up with real life sense which is mucho important.

(I can't believe I just said I liked Carly!)

Really, really gots to run - have a great one and keep me posted!!!

I don't even like soap operas and I'm mesmerized by your collective commentary.

Here's my theory:
Maybe Madame Hussein runs a brothel where Alexis was forced to work as a teen. She became pregnant by her own uncle, (Helena's whooped husband) and gave birth to quadruplets. One of them has a split personality and is dating Tess/Jess on OLTL. Another, works for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign while his split personality is a mobster in Brighton Beach (Brooklyn, not England). He had a brief youthful indiscretion with Sonny when Sonny was going through one of his 'episodes.' Sam we know about (and hope that she'll stop lying about her age in real life and fess up to having lived under the plastic surgeon's scalpel these past few years). The last one will debut on GH early this fall, and an asexual transgendered stripper cum politician who is out to destroy Alexis. Alexis and Helena will team up to track down the dead man's chest and find Davy Jones' still beating heart. Wait, wrong overblown, overproduced, overhyped, boring as hell visual nightmare.

I think it was Sadamn I look good's lover that wrote for DOOL. Saw something over at TV Guide this week about her having written 2 eppies but was already gone...

LMAO!! Ya'll are gonna give me nightmares!

Anyway...its looking like another Friday Happy Hour...so I probably won't have a Friday recrap up till sometime this weekend. :)

-- Posted by: Dave at July 21, 2006 12:39 PM

Unbelievable, Whiny Emily! Quadruplets!!!!! Who knew? But it all makes sense now.

I think the Guzanator also has many twins - Lose-anator - he's the one who is taking great stuff and killing it. Shmoozanator- he's the one who writes the long-winded boring repetitive scenes. Boozenator - the one who drinks to forget what the show was and could be again. Ruse-anator - the one who edits the previews so they look somewhat interesting and hook us in for yet another horrific episode. And finally, finally - the good twin, Muse-anator - he's the one who got the whole thing going and had the great concepts but was killed off by Casey the Alian or Tanganeva lo those many years ago. Word is Muse-anator has been cryogenized in the sub-basement of GH by Helena's good twin. On the off chance that the evil twins get killed by the next virus from the Markham Islands and there is a home for him again in Port Charles.

I must go now and continue to throw things at my TV as I watch today's drek-isode. I skimmed through it and cannot believe they have Patrick and Robin throwing spitballs or something close to it - so embarresing for the actors, the characters and the writers.

Looks like Muse-anator will be down in the sub-basement for a looooooooong time. I only hopw that some of the power outages around the State don't cause him to defrost the wrong way and be lost to us forever....or has it happened already????

(By the way - you thought I was Sheridan didn't you? Ha-today's episode was so bad Sheridan couldn't take anymore and I came to visit.....)

Dave - where are you? Did the electricity go out on Wyndemere and you're stuck with no internet access? Are you on the mission with Anna? I'm actually working today (one of the hazards of the profession - weekend work) and I figured some GH sanity/insanity would be a welcome diversion! Or are you at the Fan Club thing this weekend? Come on - are you????? If yes - spill it. If not - do you get those things altogether? I'm intrigued by the concept that they exist.....
I'll wait to dish about Friday's crap-isode until I read your recap....enjoy the day...someone should....

-- Posted by: Sheridan at July 23, 2006 1:49 PM

Hey Dave - no worries - I just spoke to Lainey and we're going to get together for coffee later and she said she'll tell me everything about Sonny's treatment and Max's and everyone. (If she's smart she'll let me supervise their treatment - the only trouble there would be that they might get better and then there would be no show....decisions, decisions)

Sheridan who reaaaaaaaally needs a long vacation.

Sorry, gang...ended up heading to the beach for the weekend and didn't get back to late last night.
Didn't even watch Friday's show...did I miss anything?

...and after reading all the recaps about FCW this past weekend...I can't say there's much to look forward to...

-- Posted by: Dave at July 24, 2006 10:23 AM

Good for you! The beach - sounds like heaven and you didn't miss a dang thing on Friday. Lainey had another session with Sonny where she overinterpreted everything (probably would have had a real patient running out the door and never coming back - information overload) but I think that was for the new audience - to recap. They had some cheesy fake flashback - with Carly in some outfit that one of the other Carly's wore - I ff'd it so I have no clue.

Good scene with Jason and Ric - Jason caught Ric snooping and let him know he's on to him.

Patrick and Robin acting so embarrasingly juvenile that I think the kids on Sesame Street would have been pleading for mercy. Morgan had to actually tell them to grow up!

Some bla-bla telling not showing about Anna pulling strings to pit Nic against Patty - making Pat jealous -

On and on and on (see why you do these recaps? I'm snoring as I type from how boring these are so - I will bore you no more)

But really - I must admit that Haridan was reading those FCW recaps and boards and what is up with that? I never knew these things existed - I never connected it to the commercials for them - I'm really intrigued by the whole concept. Really intrigued. I don't get it - and I'd love to.

THANKS for catching me up...figured I didn't miss much.
I think the FCW thing might be fun, too...although I'm not one for standing in a line...hehe
Was glad to hear that both Tristan and Finola had some of the longest lines and got the biggest cheers.
I've also seen rumors that a new HW could be on the way...it's too early to get our hopes up, though.
