The Good
Another double case episode this week. Two distinctly different cases give the show a fuller look and this is a format I think the writers should stick to loyally. Patti sings in this episode and gives a solid performance as well. The first seeds of an Eli/Maggie romance seem to have been planted. Some of you may get that impression from their final scene together, but it is still a mystery as to whom Eli will finally tango with. Taylor, Maggie and Beth, are all possibilities and if done correctly, can provide some great drama and comedy.
The Bad
There was a really poor cop out on the part of the writers when Patti informs Eli about the big secret of the witness’s location. This is the third time in this series where I have noticed lazy writing. There is nothing wrong with “accidental circumstances†in storylines, but this philosophy should be used sparingly and with caution. The introduction of the romance between Martin and Patti appears to be more of an excuse to explain Patti’s knowledge of the situation, as opposed to there actually being an arch between the two of any significance.
The Ugly
It was a bit annoying to witness the demotion of Dr. Chen to a mere background character. The information we received from the early poll we conducted showed Dr. Chen to be ranked just as high as Eli on the “intriguing†factor. Maybe the writers never had any real intention of fully utilizing the character, but I think the rest of us would certainly approve if Chen was involved a little more in storylines. On the other hand, Maggie has really taken off of late, so it may be just an issue of not having enough room to fit all of the secondary characters into the story.
I think I saw the actor who plays Mr. Chen in the promo for Miss Guided, so maybe he's leaving to be a regular there?
