Eli Stone Fodder

“Eli Stone” Is Already Making Headlines

The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a statement criticizing “Eli Stone” as "leaving audiences with the destructive idea that vaccines do cause autism." In the pilot episode which airs Thursday, Eli Stone convinces a jury that the mercury element in a vaccine can cause the development of autism in young children. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) however, argue that there is scientific proof that child immunization and autism are not linked. Pediatricians are worried that parents may be fooled into believing that immunization for their children is unsafe. AAP president Dr. Renee Jenkins discharged a letter to Disney-ABC Television Group President Ann Sweeny where she stated, "Many people trust the health information presented on fictional television shows, which influence their decisions about heath care." ABC has announced that it will run a disclaimer at the beginning of the show and add additional information near the end, but that the debut will proceed as planned.
