The Biggest Loser: Duos

”BLoser-duos.jpg"So far this season is a little disappointing. I am not feeling it with any of the players. There's no Matt, no Susie. I guess I am rooting for either Bobby or Marty. Bobby seems like a nice guy and Marty is a hard worker. The red team just seems a little catty -- and I'm looking at you too, Wylie.

Personalities aside, nothing speaks better than numbers on this show. So far, the red team has lost 294 pounds; the blue team has lost 354. As impressive as that is, even more stunning is that now the teams are broken up. Each team is getting paired with someone from the opposite team.

Now we are finally going to see who the breakouts are: the ones you love and the ones you love to hate. Speaking of which: Doesn't it seem like Caroline is always reading off a teleprompter? I hate when it's so obvious!

Whoever has the lowest percentage of weight loss for the week will get kicked to the curb -- and it had better be a big curb, since they will be taking their partner with them.

One person will be deciding the teams, and that person was Wylie. He won the power to choose the teams by choosing the correct plate. Actually, he didn't "win." He was the last one to choose, and it was the only plate left -- lucky bastard!

After torturing himself, Wylie chose the teams: Heather gets Bobby, Pam is with Brian, Kai got Erik, and Wylie put himself with Marty. Pam was upset because she feared her low numbers would get Brian kicked off that week. Erik is very lucky because Kai holds the coveted "free pass," which she can use to keep herself (and her teammate) in the game if voted out.

Bob and Kim did not make a good team. Now that they had to work together to train everyone, they were clashing on styles. Kim wanted to keep everything light before the challenge; Bob was into ass-kicking from the get-go.

The challenge looked like some kind of human sacrifice. It probably felt like it to some of the contestants as well. The object was that each duo had to raise a big pole and keep it in the middle of a ring. Each person can only use one hand. Touch the ring, and it catches on fire. The duo that lasts the longest will win and get to make a videophone call home.

The mismatched sizes of each duo made things harder on some of the stronger members. For instance, Erik complained a few times that he couldn't straighten out his arm. Why? Because Kai already had hers stretched to the max.

Heather and Bobby were the first to drop out. Kai and Erik went next. Marty wanted to see if he could hold it on his own, so he asked Wylie to let go. Needless to say, Brian and Pam won. The real winner, however, was Motorola: Big plug for the Motorola Ojo!

The last chance workout was also the last chance for a plug: Big ups for Penta Water.

Knowing that one person from each team was going home made this week's weigh-in a bit more stressful on everyone. Here are the results:

Name Starting Weight Current Weight This Week's Loss Total Loss

Pam (IN) 247 207 -4 -40

Brian (CA) 308 240 -6 -68

Total: -10 pounds, 2.19%

Wylie (FL) 307 242 -6 -65

Marty (MO) 365 286 -7 -79

Total: -13 pounds, 2.40%

Kai (AL) 262 208 -6 -54

Erik (NY) 407 338 +3 -69

Total: -3 pounds, 0.55%

Heather (UT) 223 182 -5 -41

Bobby (CA) 321 255 -5 -66

Total: -10 pounds, 2.24%

Kai was pissed, and rightfully so. Erik even admitted that he slacked off because he knew he had a free pass. Of course, he didn't admit this to her, which was a good thing. She might have ripped his face off.

The two of them opted to use their free pass, which meant that Pam and Brian had to say goodbye. However, that left two empty seats. Just when you thought the show might end one week earlier...

Remember in the first episode, Caroline promised slots to some of the people that went home the first day? Three men and three women were brought back; the ones with the highest percentage of weight loss next week will be joining the game full time. Surprise! -- Rachel Cericola
