The Biggest Loser: Beach Week

loser-beach.jpgAnother two-hour episode can only mean one thing: NBC didn't feel like paying Howie Mandel today...

The show kicked off with a big pile of food… not sure why since it really didn't play a part in anything. It did make me hungry though. I hate how they torture the contestants (and me) like that. However, I didn't feel as bad when red team members were saying how they thought they would have been happy that Jen got kicked off last week. Um… they knew her for like a day, right?

Trainer Kim was excited that it was beach week. Of course she would be. She's hot! The red team, on the other hand, looked disappointed and dumbfounded. Wylie said he wasn't psyched to take off his shirt. He certainly was not alone. The blue team seemed a little more enthused though.

Right before they left, Ken found out his son was in the hospital. Even though he was a big mess, he decided to stay at the ranch and do a group prayer with everyone. They should have prayed for rain, because no one really liked the beach workout.

Then came the temptation: Pick a sandcastle… some has chocolate underneath, worth 175 calories… some have carrot sticks for 30 calories… and at least one of them will give someone immunity. No one chanced it, which made for a boring 10 minutes.

To cap off the night, the teams had a beach barbecue. There was also some nice product placement for Jennie-O.

Both teams got a taste of yoga. Some loved it… some not so much. The red team thought it was downright funny. Kim didn't see the humor in it, so she made them start running. No one seemed to be laughing after that. In fact, they were all starting to envy the blue team's relationship with Bob. Maybe that's because they weren't running.

Caroline appeared to present a challenge. The teams needed to build a mountain of sand to capture a flag. The prize was care packages from each member's family. The losers get to see their packages chucked into the ocean -- I'm kidding!

The question is: How much sand is needed to hold even the lightest team member? Apparently a lot. About 40 minutes in (on the clock), the piles were still not very high and were sort of mushy.

In all of the commotion, Nelson jumped for the flag and fell on Wylie. I know who is voting for whom if the red team comes up for elimination again. Despite the drama, the red team won, and all of a sudden, they actually seemed like they liked each other -- for now. Each one of them shared their packages full of pictures and letters. I hope the blue team was far away...

An hour into the show, the teams were back from the beach. Just like last week, the blue team lost the challenge, but were seriously stepping it up in the workouts.

The teams reviewed some of the items that they can't wait to wear. Stillettos for Kai? I thought she was cooler than that!

Bob praised the blue team for their newfound eating habits. He also gave a nice plug for One-A-Day vitamins.

And now the moment we've all been waiting almost 90 minutes for -- the weigh-in. The red team chose Erik to sit out this week. They obviously learned from last week's poor choice.

The following lists each team member with their starting weight in parenthesis, followed by this week's loss and their current weight… Hopefully by next week, I will figure out how do a chart!

Red Team

Name Starting Weight Current Weight This Week's Loss Total Loss

Nelson (MA) 404 370 -15 -34

Ken (WA) 358 320 -20 -38

Wylie (FL) 307 275 -18 -32

Kai (AL) 262 238 -12 -24

Pam (IN) 247 231 -6 -16

Heather (UT) 223 206 -8 -17

Total: -79 pounds, 4.60%

Blue Team

Name Starting Weight Current Weight This Week's Loss Total Loss

Erik (NY) 407 375 -16 -32

Marty (MO) 365 329 -16 -36

Bobby (TN) 321 291 -12 -30

Brian (CA) 308 277 -8 -31

Amy (MD) 260 236 -8 -24

Tiffany (TX) 255 236 -7 -19
Melinda (AL) 236 221 -4 -15

Total: -55 pounds, 3.34%

The red team won before the weigh-in was even over. Marty was the only one that knew he was safe; he was the biggest loser for the week. The only one that wasn't safe was Tiffany.

She did continue to lose some weight on her own, but it would take a major comeback for Tiffany to take home cash at the end. I guess this time it was wise to mess with Texas. -- Rachel Cericola
