The hit seires "Battlestar Galactica" will soon leave "SciFi Fridays," according to the SciFi Channel's website.
Since its premiere in 2003, "Battlestar" has aired on Friday nights. Starting January 21, 2007, the show will move to a new night and a new time - Sundays at 10p.m. ET/PT. It's set to follow the premiere of the new original series "The Dresden Files" at 9p.m.
According to Variety, "Battlestar" has been slightly down in the ratings from last season - averaging 2.1 million overall viewers (down from 2.3 million) and 1.4 million in adults 18-49.
The move to Sunday will mark the first time the SciFi Channel has attempted an original series on that night.
SciFi Channel Executive VP of Programming Mark Stern explained the move, saying that since broadcast and cable networks have realized Friday is not a "bad" timeslot anymore, competition has gotten tougher. When football ends in January, Sunday nights will be less competitive.
In the new timeslot, "Battlestar" will go up against CBS' "Without a Trace" and ABC's "Brothers & Sisters."
Well, it sounds like a great way to end the weekend, but airing so late on a school night is going to hurt a bit. Who needs to work on Monday mornings anyway? Right? Ah nuts. --Shannon Nolley
In my opinion (for whatever that's worth), this is a good move for BSG. On Fridays, not only does it have to compete with other networks, it has to compete with social life. Friday and Saturday nights are when most of the coveted 18-35 demographic go out and enjoy time away from the boob tube. Sunday night is THE time to catch up on TV and relax before the beginning of the week so the ratings have a better chance of improving because there will physically be more people at home in front of the TV during this time slot. If I recall, Fox did a similar move with the X-Files around its 3rd season and that's when it really took off. Let's hope the same occurs here.

Um... yay? I'm inclined to applaud a network decision to move a fan-favorite show when they have confidence in it and they’re looking to draw viewers away from competing networks... but this move basically indicates SciFi feels that Friday night is too competitive (since when?) for our beloved BSG, and that Sunday night is "softer". Interesting that ratings are down slightly from last season... don't suppose any of the net execs are holding the lackluster scripting this season to task... I suppose the kid-like nostalgic side of me wants to be happy (the original "BSG" aired on Sunday nights, of which I have fond memories), but overall, I'm NOT happy about this. Somebody kick MoorEick in the pants, and tell 'em to bang out a decent arc for the story-starved fans.
