The Tonight Show had a very special guest last night. During the April 12 taping, Kevin Eubanks got some spotlight, coming to the couch to announce that he would soon leave The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
"After 18 years, I just need a change of pace and see what else is going on," he said. "But it's a really difficult decision because this has become my second home, as it has been for the band, and I love the audience and the American people really love the show and it's been a wonderful experience to be here."
Eubanks has been leading the late-night band for 18 years. There's no word on who will replace the musician. However, he is planning to stick with the show for another six weeks.
Eubanks took over as The Tonight Show bandleader after the seat was vacated by another jazz musician, Branford Marsalis.
American Idol music director Rickey Minor has already jumped claim on the job. Well, that was fast! Think that's a good pick? Check out Eubanks on the couch and then sound off underneath.
