As if there wasn't enough drama in the soap opera world...
Just a few months after cutting Guiding Light, CBS has announced that As the World Turns will end its 54-year run next fall.
Once the long-running show leaves, just six soaps will remain. According to Entertainment Weekly, it could be even less -- because ABC is considering cutting One Life to Live.
Maybe they could use a James Franco or other A-lister to stop by and boost the ratings. Aside from a recent Cyndi Lauper spotting (see photo above), Turns has had its share of famous faces over the years, including Meg Ryan, James Earl Jones, Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei.
The last episode of As the World Turns will air in September 2010.
