Voice Pitchman Billy Mays Dies

"Hi. Billy Mays here."

The voice behind so many infomercials has been silenced. Billy Mays, best known as the pitchman for OxiClean, has died. He was 50.

CNN says that Mays was found dead in his home yesterday morning. On Saturday, Mays had been on a US Airways flight from Philadelphia to Tampa. The flight experienced a hard landing, when the plane's front tires blew out. There were no serious injuries, but Mays had been interviewed by a local Tampa TV station about the incident.

"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," Mays said. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head."

An autopsy should determine whether or not the incident had anything to do with his death.

Aside from being the voice of other products, including Mighty Putty and Kaboom, Mays had just started starring in Discovery Channel's "Pitchmen." The show follows Mays and Anthony "Sully" Sullivan, as they try to find and pitch the next big thing.

"It is with incredible sadness that we have to report that Billy Mays died in his sleep last night. Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth. Billy was a pioneer in his field and helped many people fulfill their dreams," Discovery Channel said in the statement. "He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family at this time of incredible loss. More information will be distributed as it becomes available."

Mays is survived by his wife and two children. One of them, Billy Mays III, has posted a few items about his father on his Twitter page. -- Rachel Cericola
