"Guiding Light" Gets Cancelled

Guiding-Light.jpgThe economy has effected more than people's spending habits. Soon, your viewing may be disturbed as well -- at least if you're a fan of "Guiding Light."

CBS has announced that they are ending the classic soap opera after a whopping 72-year run. The Guinness Book of World Records says that the soap is the longest-running TV drama in history. The show first premiered on NBC Radio in 1937; it then moved to CBS TV in 1952.

According to The New York Times, Procter & Gamble, who owns the program, says that the ratings have been in decline for a few years. The economy hasn't helped, either.

The final episode of "Guiding Light" will air on September 18. -- Rachel Cericola

I am a stay at home mom housewife that was raised watching Guiding Light I'm very upset that I pay to get local channals so I am able to watch this show. There is four generation in my family that watches the best saop opra on telivion. My six year old daughter was mad when Coop died, and is a big lizzy fan. And why did you bring Philp back, then deside to end the show?

We have been long time followers of Guiding Light and now that it is getting very interesting again, you are going to Cancel it? ??????? We watch all the soaps on CBS and have for several years and it breaks my heart to see Guiding Light go away. I certainly hope that another station will pick it up. I do hope you reconsider this decision.

Why pull the plug on GL now that it is getting interesting again. Danny Santos is coming back (great to have him back) and Phillip is back. Why didn't you get rid of Judge Judy ( the yelling bitch)
Get rid of all the Judge and reality shows.

i can't believe this sh... Now that the plot thickens you take it away. How can you do that? Lizzy finally grows up and get a real love. Allen is starting to break. Reva falls for another man. Come on my heart is breaking here. Talk about dangling a carrot. Cruel i tell you just plain old crule. My mornings aren't ever going to be the same. My day is going to have a big void. I don"t watch soaps but this one i have continued to watch. Please don"t do this. Can"t you find another way? Look guys (cast) take a small pay cut hell I have, so can you. Ask what can you do for your country not what your country can do for you? LOL. Reguardless what happens you guys have become my family. God bless and keep on keeping on. May the Guilding light be with you. I"ll miss you all.

I AM SO UNHAPPY TO HEAR OF THE REMOVAL OF GUIDING LIGHT. I STARTED WATCHING ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND FIND IT TO NOW, BE ONE OF MY FAVORITES.
THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER SHOWS NOT AS GOOD THAT SHOULD BE REMOVED!!!
I HOPE THERE WILL BE A CHANGE OF MIND
AND KEEP THE SHOW ON.....

I AM DEEPLY SORRY AT THIS NEWS.

I have watched this show for the past 20 years. The characters and the stories provided stress relief. The characters of Reva and Josh, Michelle and Danny, Phillip and Beth, Frank and Eleni, etc.... became part of the fabric of my daily life. There are pivotal moments I will remember in my life-- 9/11, the loss of my grandmother, college graduations, and the end of my favorite soap. WTF is this world coming to? If a stupid reality/ talk show replaces GL, I will boycott the network and P&G products.

I want to know if the stars are going on another show as I will miss this show a lot. I watched it as a teen with my mom and great aunt and think there is a lot they could get rid of and not this. Why do we have junk on instead of the old tradition things. Are the stars going to another soap? Is there a chance this show will come back? Please answer

Just want to thank each of you that had anything to do with the canceling of GL. My husband took a cut in pay by five dollars an hour to make our show go on and did it for nearly two years. We learn to do without alot of things some nessities some just wants. But never in a millions years would I'd thought I would have to do without GL at fifty four my routine has forged to the same direction every afternoon at two pm CBS-WAFB in Louisiana. Miss my GL please bring it back. to old to change now ,been watching Forty Something Years...

I am very upset that my favorite soap got the axe the sponsors can say the ratings dropped because of the economy but we know the real truth. GL's ratings started to decline after they moved them from their original afternoon time slot for who's show. I was upset that my GL was always pre-empted for sports, emergency broadcasts, etc and the sponsors thought it was a good idea to air it at 1:35 am, my
goodness what do you expect people to do ? Set their alarms to go off at that time so they can watch it or they would have to stay up all night to watch it. I know we have all this modern technology and all but some of GL fans are from a generation that barely knows how to program the VCR or the DVD recorder to record their soap. I bet you the big hot shot sponsors didn't give that a thougt. Ratings matter to them not loyal fans. I was so out done over the canceling of GL I have boycotted watching their channel. If everyone had of done that they would have thought twice about taking it off of the air. I was a fan from way back a forth generation fan and I am truly disappointed that the best soap was taken of the air. I felt like the people in Springfield were my family. Listen one can only stand so many reality shows, game shows, talk shows, and the rest of the junk that's on now. Some of us looked forward to escaping for that hour Guilding Light was on five days a week and trust me we were not all women who watched the show and got hooked. You should had at least given them another shot at another time slot or something but to hang them out to dry was WRONG.

After my wife gets me hooked on GL you
you take the darn show off. Hey I heard that chick Oprah is leaving the air give the show her spot. Man oh man and you change GL time slot to accommadate Phil McGraw he is a cool dude and all but I could have done without seeing him everyday and night too! Bring Back Our SOAP GL. Peaple make noise, speak up the sponsors make money because we buy their products if we stop using their products and watching the shows they sponsor they will stop messing with our soaps right GL fans everywere. GL we miss you come back for your loyal fans every where.
