"Who" is right... Matt Smith, a relative unknown, has been chosen to fill the shoes of the title character in "Doctor Who."
Smith will be the 11th Time Lord, says a BBC press release. He will take over after David Tennant leaves the cult hit at the end of the year. Smith-helmed episodes are expected to premiere in 2010.
"The challenge for me is to do justice to the show's illustrious past, my predecessors, and most importantly, to those who watch it," said Smith. "I really cannot wait."
The identity of the new "Doctor Who" was reveled on "Doctor Who Confidential, which aired Saturday in the UK.
Aside from Tennant, the role has been occupied by William Hartnell, Tom Baker, Paul McGann, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, and Christopher Eccleston. -- Rachel Cericola
