Robert Carlyle Signs on for "Stargate"

Robert-Carlyle.jpgRobert Carlyle's time may have run out on "24," but he's apparently got plenty of juice left for the small screen.

The star of "24: Redemption" and "The Full Monty" has signed on to star in "Stargate Universe," the third series in the movie franchise.

Carlyle will star as Dr. David Rush, the leader of a band of explorers, who find themselves stranded somewhere in the universe. This installment is expected to be much darker than "SG-1" or "Atlantis." Den of Geek also says the show will be set in the present day.

"We couldn't be more excited to set Robert Carlyle for Stargate Universe," said Mark Stern, executive VP for Sci Fi's original programming department. "He brings a depth, intelligence, and complexity to his roles, which will fit perfectly with the fresh, new reinvention of this franchise."

This will be Carlyle's first regular TV series for the U.S. A two-hour movie will kick off the series in July on the Sci Fi network. -- Rachel Cericola

The ONLY good thing about him joining SGU is that he won't be thee new Doctor Who. Russell Davies, producer and writer of the newest version of Who, says they were considering Carlyle to replace David Tennant. Thank goodness that won't happen. I love DW and hate Carlyle.

now, now. You obviously haven't seen Carlyle on his show from the mid-90s "Hamish MacBeth", 20 eps over two years, he was brilliant! fan-freakin-tastic... a rich character that was even more interesting because of the depth and complexity he brought to it.
