Ready to "Party Down?" Well you may have a bit of a wait.
Starz just announced "Party Down," a half-hour comedy from Rob Thomas, the creator of "Veronica Mars" and "Cupid." However, the show won't hit the network until early 2009.
"Party Down" will focus on six friends who come to Hollywood to make it big, but instead end up working at a catering company. Each of the 10 episodes ordered will take place at a different catered event, such as a sexy seniors singles mixer, an adult entertainment awards after-party, and a super-sweet 16.
"We'll have opportunity for satirical lampooning of whatever subset the party represents as we tell the ongoing stories of our catering crew," says Rob Thomas. "If the original British version of 'The Office' was a show about people who have given themselves over completely to the rat race, 'Party Down' is a show about people who have chased the dream for far too long. We're particularly interested in mining the comedy of what happens as the dream fades."
This will be the first show produced for Starz by the network's sister company, Starz Media. The network's first dramatic series, "Crash," premieres October 17. -- Rachel Cericola
