Review: Beat the Booey

booey.jpgWho considers Cookie Puss to be the perfect Mother's Day gift? Which Wack Packer called in to have phone sex with Colin Quinn? Which Stern cast member is a former state hula-hoop champion? You'd better know if you plan to "Beat the Booey."

The latest Howard TV original asks super-fans to test their knowledge of Howard Stern against each other, as well as long-time producer Gary Dell'Abate (aka Baba Booey).

Each show starts with three contestants. Stay alive through the first two segments, and the last one standing will take part in the "Booey Round."

Casual listeners probably won't know half the stuff that this game show covers -- even current Stern events. However, hardcore fans will love the show's endless barrage of questions, and find themselves shouting out answers. I am guessing this is how so many people actually think they can beat Booey in the first place.

Surprisingly, "Beat the Booey" seems to actually have a budget. The sets look like a real game show, and even host Jon Hein (of "Jump the Shark" fame) has a suit. However, the audio is unbelievably horrible. Also, we never actually find out why Dell'Abate is in a different room during most of the episode. Does he think he's Robin or something? Actually, it looks more like Booey is working in between his occasional comments.

I've always found Dell'Abate to be likeable -- except when it comes to parting with his prize money. Beat the Booey and you can home a $5,000 prize. Of course, there are only five shows, so good luck with that.

Marking Dell'Abate's 24th anniversary with the show, "Beat the Booey" premieres September 4 on Howard TV. -- Rachel Cericola
