Just yesterday we were reading reports of how well Bernie Mac was responding to treatment. Now, the AP is reporting that the comedian has died. He was 50.
Mac died early this morning due to complications from pneumonia. He had also suffered from sarcoidosis, a respiratory disease; he previously said he was in remission.
The actor's resume includes "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," "Guess Who," "Transformers," and the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy. He also spent five seasons on TV, in Fox's "The Bernie Mac Show." According to IMDB.com, he was currently working on four other projects, including the TV program "Starting Under," which had not yet been picked up.
"Bernie Mac was a gifted talent whose comedy came from an authentic and highly personal place. He was a tremendous live performer and a wonderful actor," the Fox network said in a statement. "Fox was proud to be the home of "The Bernie Mac Show," and all of us at Fox and 20th Century Fox Television extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Rhonda and daughter JeNiece."
The comedian, born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough, chronicled his upbringing the 2004 memoir "Maybe You Never Cry Again." -- Rachel Cericola
