Ebert and Roeper Give Thumbs-Down to "At the Movies"

ebert-roeper.jpgThe idea of giving movies a thumbs up or down has been a staple of Roger Ebert's movie review television show for years. But now it looks like he's taking his thumbs somewhere else.

The movie critic, who has hosted an incarnation of his television show "At the Movies" for over 30 years, is bailing on the show, reports MovieWeb. If that wasn't enough, his fellow critic Richard Roeper announced he was leaving the show as well. Apparently Roeper was in talks to extend his contract with Disney-ABC, but they couldn't reach an agreement. As for veteran movie critic Ebert, he said Disney-ABC was taking the show in a new direction that he wanted no part of.

Roeper announced he is planning to co-host a new movie review program in the near future. His last show will be on August 16. No news yet on what's up next for Ebert, who has been sidelined for the last few years by an illness that affects his speech. --Chris Sardelli
