Showtime Snags Diablo Cody Comedy

tcollette.jpgHow do you follow up indie cred and an Oscar? Head on over to Showtime.

Diablo Cody, who picked up her statue for a little screenplay called "Juno," has signed a deal with the cable network. The Hollywood Reporter says that Showtime wants 12 episodes of "The United States of Tara," a half-hour comedy starring Toni Collette ("Little Miss Sunshine").

She stars as a woman with dissociative identity disorder. In each episode, you'll never know which of Collette's personalities will pop up. John Corbett ("Sex and the City") has been cast as her husband. Craig Gillespie ("Lars and the Real Girl") directed the pilot.

"The United States of Tara" is scheduled to start production next summer. -- Rachel Cericola
