Now that the pesky writers strike is history, networks are free to start developing new shows again. As such, ABC just ordered two brand-new pilots for development.
MovieWeb reports the network has picked up one new dramedy and one sitcom. The dramedy, which is based on a New Zealand program called “Outrageous Fortune,” will revolve around a family of criminals who try to reform once their father is thrown in jail.
The show is courtesy of Rob Thomas, creator of The CW’s recently departed cult-favorite “Veronica Mars.” Apparently it’s been a great year for Thomas, whose pilot for “Cupid” was recently picked up by ABC. In addition, The CW just ordered the pilot for Thomas’ sequel to “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
Also ordered by ABC, in a clear attempt to channel the marvel that was “Friends,” is a comedy pilot called “5 Year Plan.” It will focus on a group of friends in their 20’s who attempt to map out their next five years. –Chris Sardelli
