If you combine the drama from “ER” and “Grey’s Anatomy” with the frenetic real-time pace of “24,” you may get something close to Simon Fuller’s new drama pilot.
According to MovieWeb, the well-known producer of “American Idol” is trying his hand at a medical show titled “Austin Golden Hour.” The CW has already ordered one hour-long pilot and Fuller will serve as an executive producer. Coincidentally, Variety reports that former “ER” story editor Lance Gentile helped write the pilot.
“Austin Golden Hour” will follow a fictional team of Texas emergency room surgeons and EMTs, but with a twist. Instead of sprawling storylines, MovieWeb reports the action will happen in real-time, just like on “24.” Each episode will show what happens in the first hour of an emergency situation, complete with medical crises and examinations of the personal lives of the hospital staff.
