Is "Jericho" Getting Cancelled -- Again?

dbsweeney.jpgSomeone at CBS must really like nuts.

Last season's crusade helped to revive "Jericho" for a second season. Now The New York Times says it's on life support.

Tuesday's episode saw its lowest numbers to date, with 5.87 million viewers. That's not a good sign considering that CBS wasn't too pleased with the show's 9.5 million last season.

The network also takes into account the one-million-plus additional viewers via TiVo and online. However, the outlook doesn't look good. The Hollywood Reporter says that two endings have been shot for season 2, just in case CBS decides to pull the plug.

"Jericho" received a 7-episode order for this season; only two remain. Catch them on Tuesday nights at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on CBS. -- Rachel Cericola

Yeah, I got something to say.
If CBS cancels JERICHO I will HATE them for as long as I live and NEVER have their channel on again.
(Unless the give GERALD MCRANEY a series) Well, I have to be truthful.
I ADORE JERICHO!!
JERICHO has sooooo many fans who will be broken-hearted if CBS cancels this AMAZING show.
PLEASE CBS, DON'T CANCEL JERICHO!!!

It's too bad that television can only be made for people who cannot sit through intelligent stories and well-crafted drama. So we get bombarded with American Idol, Survivor 57, and a million hospital and police shows. There's no good family drama anymore (like Picket Fences or Promised Land) and there's very little good Science Fiction (like Star Trek).

Why can't the networks make money off of marketing a variety of good programming, even if 20 million people aren't tuning in. Don't advertisers know that there are products that would be well targeted to viewers of shows like Jericho, even if they're not reaching mass amounts?

Anyway, I hope CBS renews Jericho.

They make it sound like 5.+ million people watching is nothing!!

This show is so unlike anything on TV,how about something different for a change. I swear if CBS does one more CSI:??? I'l be sick.

It will return as...

CSI: New Bern

This is the best show on TV. If they cancel it, i will boycott CBS shows.

Sure "The Ratings According to Nielsen" says there's only so many viewers. Could there even be a more outdated method of counting? Name me just one other business that uses technology that old. But hey, it's still working for them, so kudos to Nielsen.

Jericho is the best show on TV...I just started watching Season 2 and got hooked big time. The acting, action and the script keeps you glued to the tube. I hope CBS will renew the series..there is a very loyal following for this show..which reminds me of the sort that occured for Star Trek, which didn't do too well when it first came out but sure enough its loyal base made it one of the most popular Sci-fi series ever.

Jericho is an insanely addictive tv show! I can't believe they would cancel something so great. I don't have cable but i watch online and i bought season one and plan on purchasing season 2 when it is released. the storyline is amazing and dramatic. It is also very educating. You know like if WWIII broke out there is things i have learned that are useful for survival. EX: the radiation they thought was coming in the storm and they weren' t sure how long it would take to get to Jericho until Hawkins asked how long a storm usually takes to reach Jericho from that town. Very smart! KEEP THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!

Jericho IS the bomb!!!! I love it. I don't think CBS takes into account that more than one person watches T.V. I know 4 people watch Jericho in my home. 5.87 million x 4 per household = 23.48 million viewers. HMMMM, why would they cancel Jericho if they have that many viewers? It's very STUPID!!!!! I watch CBS every night. It's the only channel I watch.... hmmm... 5 days a week x 4 people in my home is 20 less ratings per week. Tuesdays are never a great nights to have something on anyways...NOTHING has really ever made it on Tuesdays. Smith, Love Monkey, Cane, 3lbs....All canceled because they were on Tuesday nights.

They wonder why they have a problem with Jericho... first they cancel it, then they bring it back with little fanfare, then they put it on Tuesday night at 10pm against Law & Order. Gee did they give it a chance or really hope it would die???
I hope they keep it and position it and advertise it as one of their PRIME shows!

Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Monk are three shows that have survived on cable networks for a number of years. It would be nice if the producers could explore alternatives to CBS (including Fox, NBC, and ABC.) before "surrendering".

I AM SO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALL I CAN SAY IS....... LETS FLOOD CBS WITH PEANUTS ONCE MORE!

CBS, I faithfully watch your Shows, News, Late Late Night with Craig Ferguson, & yes - the Young & the Restless since 1968. I along with many others felt JERICHO has been one of the best shows on TV!!! After I sent you my portion of nuts & letters I was thrilled but leery about you doing a second season. I hoped that you really wanted to give the fans what they wanted to watch. Something inside me wondered though if you really just took the movie style ending you thought you would do & divided it up into let’s say 7 shows & then cancel it again - for good. However it went I do not care anymore. It was a great show & you dropped it at the same time you put on a show about a serial killer & kept the tired boring game & reality shows. You did not take a fair assessment of the fan viewers as most everyone uses TIVO, DVR, & INTERNET to watch particularly when the show starts on a week night at 10:00 PM! People do have to work you know. Regardless of what you feel you did to give the show the chance it deserved I personally feel you did not & had it in your heads from the beginning that you would just do 7 more episodes & that is that! You probably do not care how I feel as I am just another fan but here’s it is anyway... I will not yell, scream, & holler at you but I just will not watch your shows anymore PERIOD! I had decided I would do that at the same time you probably decide to run 7 more episodes & then give it the axe again. You see the way I figure is I do not want to like a single show you put on because you will cancel it no matter what the fans say or do. Now I have decided that I WANT TO CHOOSE how & when to end my favorite shows NOT YOU. So Tuesday, March 25, 2008 AFTER JERICO - I choose to stop watching any of CBS Shows, News, Late Night with Craig Ferguson, & my 30 plus years of The Young & the Restless! I know you won’t miss me at all because you showed me & millions of others viewers that we just didn’t matter. I just wonder how many others feel the same way. You might just find out you should have gotten rid of the person who decided to axe the show instead of the show itself.

This is the only show I watch on CBS. canceling this show cancels me as a CBS viewer. I am sure there are many out there in the same situation. Its a shame that such a compelling and unique show isn't worth their time and effort. Not all great shows need to be blockbusters in the ratings. If I have to watch another reality show I think I will cancel cable tv all together.

I've been hooked on Jericho since day one, and i for one am sick and tired of reality, and game shows taking over TV.They get one show that grabs the attention of the viewers, and first they cancel it, then bring it back later in the evening so that the working class people can't stay up to see it.CBS has a good thing with Jericho and now they want to cancel it,I say good-bye to Big-Brother,Amazing Race, and put in JERICHO

SAVING JERICHO: The Final Word

Here are 10 things to keep in mind for the people who will stop at absolutely nothing to save the TV show Jericho.

1- AVOID JERICHONET’S FORUM; hormonal teenagers who think they are the ruling class leading a "Revolution" aren’t really people you wish to be associated with.

2- SAVE THE SHOW’S DIGNITY,BEFORE THE SHOW; accusing everyone of conspiring to "kill" a TV show does not dignify said show nor its fans.

3- IF PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO JOIN, HARRASSING THEM WON’T HELP; flooding emails and message boards with the same “orders” to write and protest makes you a troll, not a nice person.

4- BE A FAN, NOT A PAIN IN THE ASS. ‘Nuff said.

5- BE PATIENT; “Forever Knight” came back as “Moonlight”, “Angel” and “New Amsterdam”. “Cupid” will come back as…”Cupid”! Hollywood has a limit to its creative well; wait 5 years, the show will come back, in one form or another.

6- REPEAT AFTER ME - IT.IS.JUST.A.TV.SHOW. 500 channels, millions of books in print, magazines, webcasts, radio shows, major league games, PORN for crying out loud! It's entertainement, the same as all those.

7- NETWORKS ARE NOT CHARITIES; greed aside, when a product costs more to manufacture than the profit it generates, no business in its right mind would keep making it. Jericho didn't make any money, CBS tried TWICE, now it's dead. Simple equation, really.

8- IF IT DROWNS, IT'S NOT A WITCH; people who liked season one and not season two might want to discuss the show, engage in challenging conversations and sahre their thoughts. CALLING THEM TROLLS FOR THAT MAKES YOU ONE!

9- IF YOU HAVE SO MUCH ENERGY, DEDICATION AND MONEY TO SPEND, SPEND IT ON CHANGING THE WORLD, not a network's decision.

10- AVOID JERICHONET’S FORUM; it deserved repeating. They get on everyone's nerves, anywhere a Jericho discussion takes place. Here's a tip - give it up. YOU people are killing your show.
