Longtime "Hospital" Actress Dies

"General Hospital" fans lost a favorite this week when longtime actress Shell Kepler died of kidney failure.

According to BuddyTV, Kepler passed away due to renal failure three days after being admitted to the hospital at Oregon Health & Science University. The actress was only 49.

She is best known for playing Nurse Amy Vining on the soap opera from 1979 to 2002. Her character, sister to another fan-favorite Laura Spencer, remained popular throughout her run. According to The Washington Post, Kepler also starred in the movie "Homework" with Joan Collins, as well as episodes of "Port Charles" and "Three's Company."

After her run on "General Hospital," she moved to Oregon to become involved in charity work. --Chris Sardelli
