There's no end in sight for the writers strike and with ratings dropping rapidly for late-night repeats hosts like Jay Leno and David Letterman may be looking to come back soon.
Both MovieWeb and Variety are reporting that Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien and Craig Ferguson may be trying to figure out a way to return to the airwaves this January. Neither the hosts nor the networks have confirmed the idea, but apparently there have been talks between a few of the networks about how to coordinate the plan. All four of those hosts' shows have been in repeats ever since the Writers Guild of America went on strike back in early November.
Leno and O'Brien may be the first to return, according to Variety, since both of those shows have lost half of their usual audience. Surprisingly, though, ratings for ABC's late-night host Jimmy Kimmel have been decent, as people who usually watch NBC are switching over to see what his show is all about.
The only obstacle for any host returning to television will be backlash from writers, similar to what Carson Daly experienced when he returned last week. --Chris Sardelli
