Record numbers of race-car fans, Spice Girl supporters and Marie Osmond detractors tuned in last night to the season finale of "Dancing With the Stars."
Variety reports the finale of ABC's extra-popular dance competition attracted over 24.9 million viewers for the entirety of its broadcast, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. It then peaked during its last half-hour with 26 million viewers, as people watched anxiously to see if their favorite dancer won the competition. The show also helped ABC win its first Tuesday night all season, and gave the network its best Tuesday ratings in seven years.
In the end, race-car driver Helio Castroneves beat out Spice Girl Mel B. and doll-maker Marie Osmond to claim the title and win that shiny mirror-ball trophy-thing. (Check out EW's hilarious coverage of the whole show, from a Celine Dion song to people ripping their shirts off…seriously.)
And for all you rabid dance-a-holics, there's more "Dancing" fun to be had. On January 7, ABC premieres a spin-off called "Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann" featuring two of the shows judges. --Chris Sardelli
