Following its successful re-launch of "Bionic Woman," and only days after announcing a remake of "Knight Rider" for next season, NBC has publicized plans for a re-imagining of the classic tale "Robinson Crusoe." Maybe the network should change its name to NBR, ‘Nothing But Remakes.'
"Crusoe," written by 18th-century novelist Daniel Defoe, tells the story of an Englishman stranded on a desert island. The drama series, of which NBC has already ordered 13 episodes, became reality after NBC honcho Ben Silverman instructed his development team to discuss classic tales that could be reworked for television.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the epic drama will have a budget of $35 million for its initial run. Silverman has high hopes for the show, which he calls a mix of "MacGyver," "Castaway" and "Survivor." Look for the show to set sail either next fall or Spring 2009.--Chris Sardelli
