Abrams and Fox Join Forces on the "Fringe"

jjabrams.jpgTo borrow a line from Justin Timberlake, well-known writer/director/producer J.J. Abrams is bringing creepy back. Abrams, whose previous television efforts include the action thriller "Alias" and the flashback-heavy "Lost," has created a new paranormal show for Fox called "Fringe."

The show contains several parallels to Fox's other spooky show, "The X-Files." Entertainment Weekly reports the show will focus on a young female FBI agent who works with an institutionalized scientist to discover unexplained occurrences. And fret not you X-Philes, the show is said to contain its own surreal mythology. On EW's site, Abrams says the show is "a nod to Altered States and Scanners and that whole Michael Crichton/Robin Cook world of medicine and science."

According to Variety, Abrams developed the show along with his fellow co-workers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, all of whom are also working on the new Star Trek film.

Fox has granted the show a $10 million, two-hour pilot and will start casting soon.--Chris Sardelli
