The other night, my husband and I did something we rarely do: Tune in for "Saturday Night Live." There were a few chuckles, but we both commented how surprising it was that Maya Rudolph was still on the show.
It's not a knock; just a fact. However, Entertainment Weekly says that Rudolph will not be returning for the upcoming season. There's no word on why she's leaving the show; maybe she is ready for more movies or wants more time to dedicate to being a mommy.
Rudolph's leaving doesn't effect me either way, but it does seem that the show hangs onto cast members more tightly than they used to. They seemed desperate to dump some a few seasons back, but how long as Amy Pohler been there? What about Darrell Hammond? Despite the talents of both, I sort of miss the revolving door.

Do you know something the rest of us don't? While I hate to agree w/ you about timely passings, I do. To the best of my knowledge, she is coming back.

-- Posted by: Rachel at September 25, 2007 9:10 AMI just want to thank you for wording you post as you did. Yes, there will some beloved character missing this season due to Maya's decision, but you are absolutely right about the "revolving door." The show can't continue to be fresh if the cast is stale.
