Jon Stewart Will Host the 2008 Oscars

jonstewart.jpg Reprising his hosting duties from two years ago, Jon Stewart will fine-tune his sarcastic brand of humor at the 2008 Oscars. ABC recently made the announcement, passing the baton from last year's host Ellen DeGeneres, who brought her own quirky but sweet attitude to the proceedings.

"I'm thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time's a charm," said Stewart in ABC's press release.

Does this announcement mean the Academy believes Stewart is the next Billy Crystal? It's possible. As The Chicago Tribune reported, only a few hosts have been asked back for a repeat performance in the last ten years. Billy Crystal takes top honors in that category with four hosting jobs, while Whoopi Goldberg and Steve Martin each hosted twice. And while many critics said Stewart may have been too ‘hip' for the crowd, he may offer a better middle ground than crass Chris Rock or the too-nice DeGeneres.
