Katie Couric Heads to Iraq

couric.jpgAfter a year of firsts for CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric, most notably becoming the new face of the "CBS Evening News," the former "Today" star will be heading to Iraq. Couric plans on reporting from the area just days before General David Petraeus will issue an update on the war. She will anchor the show next week in both Iraq and Syria and has made plans to interview a wide variety of people, from politicians to everyday citizens.

Couric fans probably have no reason to worry. According to reports from the Associated Press, her trip has been in the works for the last six weeks in order to accommodate safety concerns. And if that doesn't make the viewing public feel better, then this will- Couric and her executive producer will be wrapped up in over thirty pounds of body armor.

The anchorwoman's trip is no small feat and may be a result of her show's sagging ratings, which consistently place it in third behind Charles Gibson's "ABC World News" and Brian Williams' "NBC Nightly News." -- Chris Sardelli
