"Real World" Cast Member Dies

Frankie Abernathy, the young woman with cystic fibrosis from MTV's "Real World: San Diego," has died. She was 25.

Abernathy died Sunday at her mother's home. Despite her illness, no official cause of death has been announced.

A standout for her many tattoos, piercings and her habit of cutting herself, Abernathy did not finish out the 2004 season of the show, citing roommate conflicts and missing her boyfriend.

MTV News says that a scholarship fund has been set up in Abernathy's name at Blue Springs High School. Donations can be sent to the Frankie Abernathy Scholarship Fund, c/o Jackie Langston, 1205 NW Roanoke Dr., Blue Springs, MO 64015. -- Rachel Cericola
