Comedic actor Tom Poston died on Monday after a brief illness. He was 85.
The actor, who was best known for his roles on "Mork and Mindy" and "Newhart," began his career on Broadway before finding a regular slot on "The Steve Allen Show."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, it's rumored that Poston was also offered the lead role in "Get Smart," but turned it down.
He guest-starred in numerous TV shows, and starred in big-screen films such as "The Story of Us," "Soldier in the Rain," "The Princess Diaries 2" and most recently, "Christmas With the Kranks." It should also be noted that he voiced the Capital City Goofball in "The Simpsons" episode, "Dancin' Homer."
Poston is survived by three children and another Newhart sidekick -- Suzanne Pleshette. The two were married in 2001. -- Rachel Cericola
I'm glad he didn't suffer long, but he will be greatly missed. Prayers & love to his family & friends. Trayce
