'The Simpsons' Reach Their 400th Episode

simpsons-24.jpgJack Bauer has faced terrorists, nuclear bombs and even his own double-crossing father, but last night he faced his biggest challenge yet- helping The Simpsons reach their 400th episode. Well, actually the 399th. Originally, the 24-inspired episode, titled "24 Minutes," was supposed to celebrate the series landmark, but Fox changed their schedule at the last minute. D'oh!

Fortunately, it really doesn't matter. The episode sends up the frenetic pace of 24, with help from guest voices Kiefer Sutherland as Jack and Mary Lynn Rajskub as Chloe. This time, though, they both work for the Counter Truancy Unit (still CTU) and are helping Bart and Lisa halt a stink-bomb strike at school. The actual 400th episode focused on anchorman Kent Brockman and the loss of his job after he swears on air.

As USA Today reported, the show is only 30 episodes away from reaching the milestone set by Bonanza. After that, the only records standing in the show's way of achieving the much-coveted title of "longest-running TV show" are The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet (435), Lassie (588) and Gunsmoke (633).
