"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin Dies

sirwin.jpgCrikey! This is some sad news. The New York Daily News is reporting that Steve Irwin, better known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday as he filmed off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.

Irwin was filming a show called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he was attacked and killed by a stingray.

His show, "Crocodile Hunter," was first broadcast in his native home of Australia in 1992. Shortly after, it was picked up by the Discovery network, making him the most famous alligator-themed Aussie since the fictional "Crocodile Dundee."

A film, more TV shows, various conservation efforts and zoo exhibits followed. In 2004, Irwin came under fire for a few weird incidents, including holding his infant son in one hand while feeding crocs with the other inside a zoo pen.

Irwin is survived by his wife (sometimes known as the "Crocodile Huntress") and two children. -- Rachel Cericola

That's far too young, but it's hard to feel too bad since he was doing exactly what he loved knowing how very dangerous it was!

The untimely passing of Steve Irwin is a great tragedy. This has effected my family more than I could have imagined; he has been a great influence on myself and my two boys. The world will never be the same. In the past, I have dealt with this type of emotional pain through music. Being a song writer and composer, I have written musical compositions and songs to honour friends, family, and fallen heroes to ease the pain and commemorate the contributions they've made in life. Steve falls under the obvious catagory of "HERO." Please accept and share with the world this musical tribute in honour of the great "CROCODILE HUNTER" Steve Irwin.. WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!
