"Huff" Gets Cancelled

huff.jpgLike me, many of you may be trying to justify your Showtime subscriptions. Now you can cross another reason off the list: "Huff" has been cancelled.

E! Online says that, despite rave reviews and award nominations, Showtime has pulled the plug after only two seasons.

The show, which stars Hank Azaria, Blythe Danner and Oliver Platt, follows the reawakening of a psychiatrist (Azaria) after a 15-year-old patient commits suicide in his office. The network had been high on the show, renewing it for a second season before it even premiered. Apparently, it never garnered the following that they were hoping for.

The series finale of "Huff" airs Sunday, June 25 at 10:00 p.m. (EST) on Showtime. -- Rachel Cericola

Nnnnnnooooooooo!

First INVASION, now HUFF?
I wonder if they will even give it a proper finale....

-- Posted by: Russell's Girl at June 25, 2006 4:57 AM

I can not believe that you would cancel one of the "BEST" shows on TV today.

THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!!!

I WILL NEVER WATCH SHOWTIME AGAIN.

-- Posted by: Janet Matos at June 27, 2006 10:56 AM

Are you kidding me?!?!?!? How can you cancel Huff. A great show with great performances......especially the season finale.....excellent! I was so looking forward to what the new season would bring. Something's not right here....very disappointing. This might be the end of my SHowtime subscription.

-- Posted by: m.danzi at June 27, 2006 11:00 AM

Low ratings? What do they care, its a subscription service? I think they could not afford the payroll.

-- Posted by: Mike at June 28, 2006 8:00 PM

CANCEL HUFF!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS SHOW! I'm really upset about this. I am so addicted to this storyline and I cannot imagine life after Huff (OK I can, but I'm still pissed)

Damn! This is bad news

-- Posted by: Trent at June 29, 2006 10:15 PM

Sell the rights to HBO - they have the balls to run with great talent!!

-- Posted by: ted b at July 3, 2006 1:34 PM

Makes no sense at all. I guess there is a reason why most people I ask do Not have Showtime. Clearly they are NOT in a position to market their shows successfully. Huff was an excellent show with excellent acting and storylines. This really is a tragedy. HBO is the only cable network that knows how to do it right.

-- Posted by: Henry at July 5, 2006 5:24 PM

I loved Huff! And I don't say that about many shows. It was the main reason I kept Showtime. Oh well, atleast my cable bill will go down when I cancel Showtime!

-- Posted by: Malissa at July 6, 2006 12:08 AM

Man I am bummed. I loved Huff. I just may cancel showtime.

-- Posted by: lyn holland at July 6, 2006 2:52 PM

Maybe if Showtime advertised this show more, it would have had the "following" they expected. In the television wasteland this was an oasis of talent, and storyline. I guess we'll never know what happened to Russell. Could this be too much truth regarding just how screwed up most professionals are and i.e., lawyers and psychiatrists? Just guessing.

-- Posted by: mary ann flick at July 6, 2006 7:11 PM

Easily the most compelling series on television and Showtime has no clue how to market it. Why watch any of the new Showtime series if they can't market it and insure even a moderate run? Hopefully, HBO or some other half way decent network can revive this fantastic ensemble.

-- Posted by: Jay at July 7, 2006 10:40 AM

I think that Showtime would rather kill the show completely as opposed to selling the rights to somebody like HBO. They know that they would be handling their superior rival a ratings boom. I am really disappointed in Showtime. I got rid of the subscription.

-- Posted by: Brad at July 13, 2006 4:56 PM

I just finished watching the last episode of season two; googled HUFF to find out when the next season starts and got kicked in the gut. Something smells bad here and it isn't ratings. I wish I had the cash to by the rights from Showtime and give it, yes give it to HBO. Note to me....first thing Monday morning cancel Showtime!

Thanks for nothing Mr.Greenblatt.

What the hell are the people at showtime thinking? They are going to lose so many viewers. Huff is a GREAT show. I’m not canceling my subscription just yet. Only because they still the L word and Weeds. However when they decide to make another really stupid move an cancel another one of my shows that I love that’s exactly what I’m going to do Cancel them.

-- Posted by: Mrs. Disappointed at July 15, 2006 9:15 PM

A TV snob, I was turned on to Huff on the strong recommendation of a friend. After Netflixing the whole first season and becoming addicted to the smart drama and oscar-level performances by an amazing cast, I subscribed to Showtime to catch the second season. Robert Greenblatt has clearly proven his incompetence by cancelling this thinking-man's series that gets down and dirty with life. CONGRATULATIONS to Bob Lowry on his truly innovative approach to writing, casting and creating the most intelligent, emotional drama I have ever seen on television. PLEASE BOB, FIND A SMARTER NETWORK or produce it for video. Otherwise it's back to Vanity Fair for me. Good riddance Showtime!

-- Posted by: therese at July 16, 2006 11:38 AM

What are you thinking Showtime???? You finally get something with excellent acting, a great storyline, and exciting drama. Huff is the best, you however, are not!!!

-- Posted by: linda at July 19, 2006 8:32 PM

i have cancelled my subscription. hank azaria and the entire cast are amazing, and i cannot believe showtime would cancel it.

i guess WEEDS is next on the cutting block, since it has such talented actors and writing etc.

-- Posted by: justin at August 19, 2006 12:08 PM

NO WAY... first dead like me... now this... this network has no clue how to support a great show...

I will never invest another minute of time on a show that will only make 2 season's then be droped....

thanks showtime

-- Posted by: ryan Martin at August 24, 2006 7:44 AM

What the hell??? There needs to be something done about this. Maybe if after the Emmys tonight enough people protest against showtime, they will bring huff back. That was one of the best shows, and we should all write to showtime. It's the only way to find out what happens after they left us all hanging!!!

-- Posted by: Megan Mathews at August 27, 2006 8:38 PM

I was totally disgusted when I found out this evening while I was watching the Emmy Award show that Huff was canceled. I cannot believe that Showtime would cancel a show that had such great actors and story lines.

-- Posted by: Ruth at August 28, 2006 12:58 AM

SAY IT ISN'T SO! I AM TOTALLY DISCUSTED WITH SHOWTIME FOR CANCELING HUFF. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT SEASON. NOW I AM LOOKING TO CANCELING SHOWTIME. CANCEL WHOEVER MAKES THE DECISIONS AND GET HUFF BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON!

-- Posted by: BARBARA at August 28, 2006 12:33 PM

I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY CANCELED HUFF. THE ONLY REASON I KEPT SHOWTIME WAS TO WATCH THAT SHOW. WELL I GUESS I CAN CANCEL SHOWTIME HOPE SOMEONE ELSE PICKS UP THE SHOW.

-- Posted by: CAROL at August 28, 2006 12:37 PM

Who ever decided to cancel HUFF should be FIRED since they're obviously not in touch with their viewers. HUFF was one of the finest, best acted, and well scripted shows of all times. SHOWTIME - you need to get your act together.

-- Posted by: Steve at August 28, 2006 2:28 PM

I too am shocked at the canceling of such a wonderfuly written and acted adult show. I hope that the top brass at HBO picks up the show and runs with it.I wish Showtime polled it's viewers as to their wishes before acting so rashly

-- Posted by: Lee Karlsberg at August 28, 2006 5:16 PM

I CANNOT believe they are cancelling HUFF..... what are they thinking....??
I too hope that HBO will considering picking the series up.... the acting and story lines were so very compelling i can't believe you would consider throwing this great show away!! SHAME ON YOU Showtime!!

-- Posted by: KAT in Montana at August 28, 2006 10:50 PM

WHAT CAN I SAY......
YOUR SUCK SHOWTIME FOR CANCELING HUFF

-- Posted by: BARB at August 29, 2006 1:57 PM

Everyone that loves Huff needs to make sure they don't get away with this. The cluless suit who decided to pull the plug needs to loose his job,or at least pull his head out of his ass.Showtime fucked up. Fix it keep your fans. Go Hank don't let those bastards win.

-- Posted by: Victor Vaughn at August 29, 2006 11:31 PM

I can't believe you are canceling Huff!!! It's by far my favorite show ever. You SUCK!!!

-- Posted by: Betty at August 31, 2006 7:35 AM

I don't understand why????????? This was the best show to hit TV ever! I just found out after reading it in people!! If Weeds or the L Word go.. I'm getting rid of Showtime! If HBO picks it up - I'm going back to HBO! I am so upset - not even sure I want to continue with watching my other shows as who know when they will be gone. I also LOVED Dead Like Me... come on Showtime, what the hell?

-- Posted by: Mel at September 10, 2006 11:08 AM

THE LOW RATINGS EXCUSE IS OBVIOUSLY A COVER UP. I'M GUESSING IT IS EITHER A MONEY ISSUE, THE CAST NOT GETTING ALONG, OR SOME UNDERLINED REASON INVOLVING THE SCRIPT THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT THE PUBLIC TO SEE. WHICHEVER THE REASON, IT IS AN OBVIOUS MISTAKE. HUFF IS THE BEST SERIES SHOWTIME HAS SINCE QUEER AS FOLK. THE END OF GREAT SERIES SUCH AS HUFF, DEAD LIKE ME, & QUEER AS FOLK MEANS THE END OF SHOWTIME.
CONGRATS MS. ROBERT GREENBLATT ON AN EARLY RETIREMENT!!!!

-- Posted by: Anonymous at September 15, 2006 4:52 PM

ITS RE-GOT-DAM-DICULOUS1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- Posted by: TEE at September 15, 2006 4:55 PM

It's a shame that CBS doesn't have the knowledge to handle talent. First, They let go of Howard Stern, then Tom Cruise and now Huff. I can't believe they did it again. Incase you didn't know showtime is owned by CBS (the world leader in canceling good shows) I was so hooked to Huff that I got rid of my direct tv to get cablevision and showtime on demand and watch the entire season again. I was so excited to see what was next for Teddy and Russell. I just mailed a $25 rebate for ordering showtime. As soon as I get the money, I will kiss my subscription good bye. And Mr. Greenblatt I hope you go swimming with sting rays.

-- Posted by: Miko Jones at September 18, 2006 10:29 AM

when I got showtime I spent the day watching all of the HUFF episodes.. I fell in love with the show... Can't beleive they cancelled it!!!!!!!showtime stinks!!!! i would love to know what happened!!!! I was also an idiot who watched foxs' reunion.. what's withthese networks????

-- Posted by: margie at September 22, 2006 7:12 PM

I loved Huff! If Showtime is dropping the show, maybe HBO or FX should pick it up. You just can't leave us hanging.

-- Posted by: Chandra at September 24, 2006 1:41 PM

re huff: great show, plus great talent and story equals cancelation. great chioce showtime. my disappointment is only outweighted by your stuipidity.

-- Posted by: Anonymous at September 26, 2006 8:23 AM

I thought it had to be a lie! I grew up on HBO my whole life and stumbled upon Queer As Folk two years ago at a friends house. I was immediately addicted. Next The L Word. The I saw Huff and was shouting to anyone who would listen that Showtime was the cable channel to have and HBO couldn't hold a candle with its constant repeats of the same movies. Showtime had so many amazing unique original series that I called HBO and told them to cancel me as I was now a Showtime fanatic. I waited impatiently every week for the next episode of Huff. Then the nightmare. I heard a rumor it had been cancelled but figured it couldn't possibly be with Blyth Danner winning an Emmy?
I am devastated. Showtime is slowly becoming another HBO. The only show left for me is Weeds, which I can watch online for free so GOODBYE Showtime! Every great series you come up with ends up cancelled long before its time. That is just not fair to do to the fans and they are the ones that matter, don't they?

I have 16 Showtime Channels and there is no room for a great show with a God Da*m Emmy winner start no less. I guess now there will be more room for a truck load of B movies no one ever heard of.

-- Posted by: SuseCue at September 26, 2006 11:21 AM

if SHOWTIME EVER GOES ONTO THESE BLOGS(WHICH I SERIOUSLY DOUBT) I WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE SERIOUSLY STUPID AND SO IS HBO! I do understand the film world and know that HBO should have picked it up and made it something or another network on regular cable. That show could live on with better PR. SHOWTIME IS A young company compared to the others and expecially with coming out with movies. They are trying to be HBO and clearly failing. Look at Dead Like me. That could have done much better if they advertised it better than they did. LOOK AT THIS AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR THEM, but they are dumb shits.

I canceled my showtime a few months ago and so did about seven other of my friends.

I loved Huff. Hank and Oliver are such amazeing actors. Showtime has no real thought process to cancel this show. Maybe someone should send the HBO comments on this to them they just might get the hint.

-- Posted by: Brittney at October 22, 2006 6:02 AM

I thought there was something wrong with my cable. I could not imagine they would cancel this show. It had the most intesting storyline on television. Quick and clever dialog. The best actors around. Whoever at Showtime made this decision should be looking for another line of work!

-- Posted by: Ruth at October 29, 2006 6:59 PM

How can they can such a brilliant (and evolving) show -especially with the cliffhanger last ep? I feel gutted that I won't get to see these characters again!

-- Posted by: Duane at November 3, 2006 6:25 PM

How can they cancel a show leaving us with some many loose ends? What happens with Teddy and what about the girl he tried to kill? What really happened to the boy that Huffs' son was just trying to scare? Does Russell go to prison? Do Huff and Beth get back together? Canceling this show was the dumbest decision showtime has made...they can consider me a past subscriber. That have cancelled or are canceling all of the few good shows they air. Good bye showtime!

-- Posted by: Rhonda at November 8, 2006 5:10 PM

Finaly I have found a show that I truly loved,Huff was the best ever !
Shame ! I guess quality is not generating "ratings".I bet Soprano will be on forever not that I care because I never did or I ever will watch even 1 eposide of that garbage.

I know at least a dozen people in love with Huff. The characters are amazing, not to mention the superb acting. It was the one show I looked forward to and now its gone?? I demand Showtime to reconsider this silly move. Otherwise my Showtime will be cancelled, tnere is nothing left if Huff is finished.

-- Posted by: Betty at March 3, 2007 1:52 AM

I am so depressed that Showtime has cancelled Huff. I wouldn't be so depressed if I knew why. I thought this was one of the best shows to come on TV since the Sopranos. Screw Showtime and I hope HBO has the good sense to pick up this show.

Showtime shame on you!!! Do you care about the viewers, You cancel the best show with the best cast NOOOOOOO!!! and for what?.
I too hope that HBO will considering picking the series.
Showtime do you have any explanation????
the dumbest decision ever.

-- Posted by: Sol Auer at June 4, 2007 9:58 PM

I cant stand the way these premium channels arbitrarily cancel shows. why dont they solicit comments from the subscribers? Makes too much sense? we loved HUFF, and that incudes a clan of about 30. we got showtime just for HUFF, and now this?

-- Posted by: Joyce Follador at July 21, 2007 10:51 AM

i did cancel my showtime subscription once i found out huff would not be back on. i think whoever was in charge of promoting the show should have been fired. everyone i know that watched it once loved it.

OMG GRRRRRR ,SOOO lame i watch huff when ever its on the movie net work i had noo clue it was cancelled! why would they do that they didnt even promote it enough! i hope they bring huff back!! :(

-- Posted by: kayla at August 1, 2007 7:39 PM

I had not idea it was cancelled either. I live in Central America and it was/is one of my favorite shows. Seeing as I am not allowed to log onto Showtime as I am not in the USA I only found out today. This is bull. One of the most thoughtful, humanistic, realistic wonderful shows in a long, long time. Someone bring it back! Can HBO do that - please!!!!

-- Posted by: Stace at September 16, 2007 7:05 PM

After they cancelled Dead Like Me we cancelled our subscription. Seems to be a pattern with the morons running the company. At least we watch the shows for free online.

For any sane pesron who would kill a show this good. They have to have some kind of issue with the world in general.Or they are just relly DUMB with very little brain matter. In a postion to make poor decions..Pure madness makes no sense at all

-- Posted by: Anonymous at February 2, 2010 8:46 AM

I'm actually starting to believe that Showtime are out to put out major hits only to pull the plugs, once they've properly "hooked" everyone on their exceptional series called HUFF. How could they do it you ask? Well same goes for DEAD LIKE ME. I suppose the brass at Showtime thought "Hey"! This is actually too good to air! Why don't you guys put on a dramatic series based on ancient Hungarian cabinetmaking, or the complete history of insect life from Madagascar for 10 seasons....You know;Something interesting, that will skyrocket your viewers. Start being management and make solid positive decisions, and stop portraying the actors roles and their vices and quirks.
ITS THEIR JOB TO ACT! ITS YOUR JOB TO KEEP THE VIEWERS HAPPY! ANY IDEA WHAT AVENUE YOU CHOSE TO TAKE? Keep up the great work. I can't believe you actually get paid for these types of decisions!!! Can't wait for a new great 1 or 2 season show!!!

-- Posted by: john at February 14, 2010 6:42 PM

Oh for the love of all that is pure and good still in this world, just put Huff back on the air already.
