One Less Character on "The O.C."

OC-bartongrad.jpgWhen "The O.C." premieres its fourth season this fall, it looks like there might be one less name in the opening credits. According to Teen Hollywood, Mischa Barton's character was killed off in last night's season finale.

Sorry for the instant spoiler, but it's pretty much all over the Web at this point. The question is -- as with all TV soaps -- is Marissa Cooper really dead? Marissa is a central character, but it would be a very Bobby Ewing-esque moment if she came back, considering that we saw her die in Ryan's arms.

The actress had recently voiced her displeasure with the show, saying she was ready to jump ship. How convenient that her character would be involved in a deadly car crash!

Barton had been interviewed early in the week on "Access Hollywood," basically reiterating how she was ready to move on. She currently has three films in the works, including the recently wrapped "Guilty Pleasures" -- not to be confused with "The O.C." -- Rachel Cericola
